One-step syntheses of substituted 2-pyrrolidinones and 3-pyrrolidinones from α,β-unsaturated diazoketones and amines. Application in the synthesis of barmumycin
TL;DR: In this article, a simple and one-pot way to prepare substituted 2- and 3-pyrrolidinones is described. But the method uses unsaturated diazoketones (obtained from aldeydes in a single step) and amines, and provides an easy access to these important classes of nitrogen heterocycles.

Preparation of Z-α,β-Unsaturated Diazoketones from Aldehydes. Application in the Construction of Substituted Dihydropyridin-3-ones
TL;DR: The straightforward synthesis of a natural trihydroxylated piperidine demonstrates the utility of these unsaturated diazoketones for the rapid construction of piperidines.

Astaxanthin diferulate as a bifunctional antioxidant.
Thiago Bueno Ruiz Papa,Vagner D. Pinho,E. do Nascimento,Willy G. Santos,Antonio C. B. Burtoloso,Leif H. Skibsted,Daniel R. Cardoso +6 more
TL;DR: The mutual enhancement of antioxidant activity for the newly synthetized astaxanthin diferulate becoming a bifunctional antioxidant is rationalized according to a two-dimensional classification plot for electron donation and electron acceptance capability.

Divergent Roles of Urea and Phosphoric Acid Derived Catalysts in Reactions of Diazo Compounds.
Barbara Bernardim,Erica D. Couch,Andrea M. Hardman-Baldwin,Antonio C. B. Burtoloso,Anita E. Mattson +4 more
TL;DR: Ureas and phosphoric acid derivatives can offer complementary reactivity patterns when selected as catalysts for selected O-H and S-H insertion reactions of aryl- and diazo-substituted esters.

Precise Installation of Diazo-Tagged Side-Chains on Proteins to Enable In Vitro and In-Cell Site-Specific Labeling.
Barbara Bernardim,Lavinia Dunsmore,He Li,Brad Hocking,Reyes Núñez-Franco,Claudio D. Navo,Gonzalo Jiménez-Osés,Antonio C. B. Burtoloso,Gonçalo J. L. Bernardes,Gonçalo J. L. Bernardes +9 more
TL;DR: A method for the precise installation of diazo-handles on proteins and antibodies in a mild and specific approach and subsequent 1,3-cycloaddition reactions with strained alkynes enable both bioimaging through an in-cell 'click' reaction and probing of the cysteine proteome in cell lysates.
