FLASH Proton Pencil Beam Scanning Irradiation Minimizes Radiation-Induced Leg Contracture and Skin Toxicity in Mice
Shannon Cunningham,Shelby McCauley,Kanimozhi Vairamani,Joseph Speth,Swati Girdhani,Eric Abel,Ricky A. Sharma,John P. Perentesis,John P. Perentesis,Susanne I. Wells,Susanne I. Wells,Anthony Mascia,Mathieu Sertorio,Mathieu Sertorio +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a pencil beam scanning nozzle and the plateau region of a 250 MeV proton beam, and a uniform physical dose of 35 Gy (toxicity study) or 15 gy (tumor control study) was delivered to the right hind leg of mice at various dose rates: Sham, Conventional (Conv, 1 gy/s), Flash60 (57 Gy/s) and Flash115 (115 Gy/m).

Automated Knowledge-Based Intensity-Modulated Proton Planning: An International Multicenter Benchmarking Study.
Alexander R. Delaney,Lei Dong,Anthony Mascia,Wei Zou,Yongbin Zhang,Lingshu Yin,Sara Rosas,Jan Hrbacek,Antony J. Lomax,Ben J. Slotman,Max Dahele,Wilko F.A.R. Verbakel +11 more
TL;DR: A novel prototype knowledge-based intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) planning solution using a single-center model could efficiently generate plans of comparable quality to manual HNC IMPT plans from centers with differing planning aims.

Dosimetric Comparison of Intensity-Modulated Proton Therapy and Volumetric-Modulated Arc Therapy in Anal Cancer Patients and the Ability to Spare Bone Marrow.
Teresa Meier,Anthony Mascia,Eric Wolf,Jordan Kharofa +3 more
- 28 Dec 2017
TL;DR: IMPT can decrease the mean bone marrow dose compared with VMAT plans by minimizing the low dose spill associated with standard photon treatment, and showed significant sparing of other OARs, including the small and large bowel, femoral heads, and genitalia.

Cancer Cell Metabolism: Implications for X-ray and Particle Radiation Therapy
Mathieu Sertorio,John P. Perentesis,Ralph E. Vatner,Ralph E. Vatner,Anthony Mascia,Yi Zheng,Susanne I. Wells +6 more
- 21 Sep 2018
TL;DR: An overview of the interplay of cancer cell lactate metabolism with the tumor microenvironment and immune cells is presented and how a deeper understanding and careful modulation of lactATE metabolism and radiation therapy might exploit this interplay for improved therapeutic outcome is discussed.
