TL;DR: In this article, the role of regional innovation systems and clusters in the economic recovery of old industrial regions is explored, and the authors draw a distinction between three types of cluster-based renewal: an innovation-oriented adjustment of mature clusters (incremental change); the emergence of new agglomerations in established industries (diversification); and the rise of knowledge-intensive and high-technology activities (radical change).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study inter-industry labor mobility to assess how industry-specific human capital is and to determine which industries have similar human capital requirements, and they find that inter-Industry labor flows are highly concentrated in just a handful of industry pairs.

The Mobility of Displaced Workers: How the Local Industry Mix Affects Job Search Strategies
TL;DR: The authors found that workers often cope with their displacement by moving to different regions and industries, however, which of these coping strategies is chosen depends on the local industry mix, and that a large local presence of predisplacement or related industries strongly reduces the rate at which workers leave the region.
