TL;DR: The EXPOCHI project includes a pan-European long-term exposure assessment of lead, chromium, selenium and food colours among children living in 13 different EU countries, and the different study methods and designs used to collect the data in the different countries necessitate an in-depth description of these different methods and a discussion about the resulting limitations.

TL;DR: Exposures on a body weight basis were higher in younger compared to older children and the OIM method results in an overestimation of the percentage of the population exceeding a provisional tolerable weekly intake which is of relevance for risk management decisions.

TL;DR: Long-term dietary exposure to selenium in young children living in 12 different European countries was assessed and showed differences in exposure between countries based on food consumption patterns and decreased exposure with increased age.

TL;DR: Within the European project called EXPOCHI, 14 different European individual food consumption databases of children were used to conduct harmonised dietary exposure assessments for lead, chromium, selenium and food colours, an initial impetus was given to make user-friendly food categorisation systems for contaminants andFood colours applicable on a pan-European level.

TL;DR: Food groups "milk/dairy drinks" and "cereals" contributed most to the exposure in almost all countries, and it was shown that, food consumption data collected in different European countries can be categorised in a standard way to allow for harmonised exposure modelling.
