Ti/Zr/O Mixed Oxides for the Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation of Furfural to GVL in a Liquid-Phase Continuous-Flow Reactor
Anna Saotta,Alessandro Allegri,Francesca Liuzzi,Giuseppe Fornasari,Nikolaos Dimitratos,Stefania Albonetti +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper , an efficient catalyst for the cascade reaction from furfural to γ-valerolactone in a liquid-phase continuous reactor is developed, which requires both Lewis and Brønsted acidity; hence, a bifunctional catalyst is necessary to complete the one-pot reaction.
Tuning the properties and thermal treatment of Aquivion®/oxide hybrid catalysts for the one-pot production of γ-valerolactone from furfuryl alcohol

Aquivion-based spray freeze-dried composite materials for the cascade production of γ-valerolactone.
Alessandro Allegri,Anna Saotta,Francesca Liuzzi,Enrica Gianotti,Geo Paul,Alice S Cattaneo,Claudio Oldani,A. Brigliadori,Ilaria Zanoni,Giuseppe Fornasari,Nikolaos Dimitratos,Stefania Albonetti +11 more
TL;DR: Researchers developed Aquivion-based composite catalysts via spray freeze-drying, achieving high efficiency in cascade reactions, specifically from furfural to γ-valerolactone, with yields of 25% and productivity of 4470 µmolGVL gCat-1 h-1.
Promoter Effect of Pt on Zr Catalysts to Increase the Conversion of Furfural to γ-Valerolactone Using Batch and Continuous Flow Reactors: Influence of the Way of the Incorporation of the Pt Sites

TL;DR: The promoter effect of Pt on Zr catalysts for the conversion of furfural to γ-valerolactone is highly effective, reaching a yield of ca. 50% after 16 h at 180 °C. The synergistic effect between Pt and Zr leads to improved catalytic performance compared to single metal catalysts.
