Cdc42 activity regulates hematopoietic stem cell aging and rejuvenation
Maria Carolina Florian,Karin Dörr,Anja Niebel,Deidre Daria,Hubert Schrezenmeier,Markus Rojewski,Marie-Dominique Filippi,Anja Hasenberg,Matthias Gunzer,Karin Scharffetter-Kochanek,Yi Zheng,Hartmut Geiger,Hartmut Geiger +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that elevated activity of the small RhoGTPase Cdc42 in aged HSCs is causally linked to HSC aging and correlates with a loss of polarity in agedHSCs, and a mechanistic role for CDC42 activity in HSC biology and epigenetic regulation is suggested.

Fully Automated Evaluation of Total Glomerular Number and Capillary Tuft Size in Nephritic Kidneys Using Lightsheet Microscopy
Anika Klingberg,Anja Hasenberg,Isis Ludwig-Portugall,Anna Medyukhina,Linda Männ,Alexandra Brenzel,Daniel R. Engel,Marc Thilo Figge,Marc Thilo Figge,Christian Kurts,Matthias Gunzer +10 more
TL;DR: This approach delivers fundamental parameters of renal function, and because of its ease of use and speed, it is suitable for high-throughput analysis and could greatly facilitate studies of the effect of kidney diseases on whole-organ physiology.
Catchup: a mouse model for imaging-based tracking and modulation of neutrophil granulocytes.
Anja Hasenberg,Mike Hasenberg,Linda Männ,Franziska Neumann,Lars Borkenstein,Manuel Stecher,Andreas Kraus,Daniel R. Engel,Anika Klingberg,Pegah Seddigh,Zeinab Abdullah,Sabrina Klebow,Swen Engelmann,Annegret Reinhold,Sven Brandau,Michaela Seeling,Ari Waisman,Burkhart Schraven,Joachim R. Göthert,Falk Nimmerjahn,Matthias Gunzer +20 more
TL;DR: Modulating the neutrophil-specific locus Ly6G with a knock-in allele expressing Cre recombinase and the fluorescent protein tdTomato generated a mouse model termed Catchup that exhibits strong neutrophill specificity, suggesting a cell-intrinsic role for activating Fc receptors in neutrophils trafficking.
During early stages of cancer, neutrophils initiate anti-tumor immune responses in tumor-draining lymph nodes.
E A Pylaeva,Georg Korschunow,Ilona Spyra,Sharareh Bordbari,Elena Siakaeva,Irem Ozel,Maksim Domnich,Anthony Squire,Anja Hasenberg,Kruthika Thangavelu,Timon Hussain,Moritz Goetz,Karl S. Lang,Matthias Gunzer,Wiebke Hansen,Jan Buer,Agnes Bankfalvi,Stephan Lang,Jadwiga Jablonska +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors demonstrate that during head and neck cancer (HNC) progression, tumor-associated neutrophils transmigrate to lymph nodes and shape anti-tumor responses in a stage-dependent manner.

Antibody-guided in vivo imaging of Aspergillus fumigatus lung infections during antifungal azole treatment.
Sophie Henneberg,Anja Hasenberg,Andreas Maurer,Franziska Neumann,Lea Bornemann,Irene Gonzalez-Menendez,Andreas Kraus,Mike Hasenberg,Christopher R. Thornton,Bernd J. Pichler,Matthias Gunzer,Matthias Gunzer,Nicolas Beziere +12 more
TL;DR: Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a life-threatening lung disease of immunocompromised humans, caused by the opportunistic fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus as discussed by the authors.
