In recent years, the applications and accessibility of Virtual Reality (VR) for the healthcare sector have continued to grow. However, so far, most VR applications are only relevant in research settings. Information about what healthcare professionals would need to independently integrate VR applications into their daily working routines is missing. The actual needs and concerns of the people who work in the healthcare sector are often disregarded in the development of VR applications, even though they are the ones who are supposed to use them in practice. By means of this study, we systematically involve health professionals in the development process of VR applications. In particular, we conducted an online survey with 102 healthcare professionals based on a video prototype which demonstrates a software platform that allows them to create and utilise VR experiences on their own. For this study, we adapted and extended the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The survey focused on the perceived usefulness and the ease of use of such a platform, as well as the attitude and ethical concerns the users might have. The results show a generally positive attitude toward such a software platform. The users can imagine various use cases in different health domains. However, the perceived usefulness is tied to the actual ease of use of the platform and sufficient support for learning and working with the platform. In the discussion, we explain how these results can be generalized to facilitate the integration of VR in healthcare practice.

Investigative works pertinent to the role played of technological advancements in the healthcare sector motivated this work to be undertaken. Part-I of the review addressed the applicable role play of advanced technologies such as Artificial intelligence, Big-data, Block chain, Open-Source and Cloud Computing Technologies, etc., to the healthcare sector and its allied segments. The current Part-II manuscript is critically focused upon reviewing the sustainable role of additional disrupting technologies such as Robotics, Drones, 3D-Printing, IoT, Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality, etc., to uncover the vast number of implicit problems encountered by the clinical community. Investigations governing the deployment of these technologies in various allied healthcare segments are highlighted in this manuscript. Technological Advancements and Elucidation Gadgets for Healthcare Applications: An Exhaustive Methodological Review-Part-II (Robotics, Drones, 3D-Printing, Internet of Things, Virtual/Augmented and Mixed Reality)

This article proposes a system of perception of the real world through audiovisual stimulation for the treatment of different types of phobias. The proposed system is made up of various virtual environments which will be selected according to the phobia to be treated, i.e., the user-environment integration depends on the type and degree of the phobia. The interface allows visualize the environment where the patient must comply with a predetermined therapy by the psychotherapist, in which the biometric signals of the patient are feed back in real time through wearables devices. This information is processed in order to ingest directly in the algorithm of the user’s behavior; algorithm that controls the audiovisual stimuli related to the phobia during the interaction of the virtual environment with the user. In addition, the parameters of the biometric signals are displayed graphically/numerically in the virtual environment in order for the patient to control their behavior and face their irrational fear-phobia. The results are validated based on the realism of the virtual environments developed, and the audio-visual stimuli applied to the patient based on the change of the parameters of the biometric signals acquired through wearable devices.

This work presents an approach to detect the emotional state of users immersed in a virtual environment by involving them in an activity to relieve their emotional response. Likewise, the main aspect is to identify the current emotional state by monitoring a set of biometrics, the principal activity involves a signal based analysis of emotional processing in order to validate the height interpretations.

Fear levels in virtual environments, an approach to detection and experimental user stimuli sensation

This paper presents an approach to the detection and identification of measurable human responses to heights inside a virtual environment. Biometric data such as heart rate and movement reactions are acquired during the execution of a task within a specific framework, signal based analysis is done to validate behavioral responses and interpretation of fear. Thus, giving a better understanding of the effect and extend of these stimuli in a person on a controlled virtual scene.
