Reconstitution of neutrophil NADPH oxidase activity in the cell-free system by four components: p67-phox, p47-phox, p21rac1, and cytochrome b-245.
TL;DR: These findings confirm the recent description of the membrane-bound cytochrome b as a FAD-containing flavocy tochrome b containing the NADPH binding site, and implicate the three cytosolic proteins in its activation.

Molecular cloning and characterization of grancalcin, a novel EF-hand calcium-binding protein abundant in neutrophils and monocytes.
TL;DR: A novel EF-hand Ca(2+)-binding protein called grancalcin has been identified and characterized, which displays a Ca( 2+)-dependent translocation to the granules and plasma membrane of neutrophils, suggesting that it might play an effector role in the specialized functions of these cells.

TL;DR: The production of recombinant grancalcin, the generation of antibodies to the protein and the development of a specific, accurate and sensitive ELISA for the detection of human leukocytic grancAlcin are described, which may be useful for monitoring leukocyte infiltration into tissues.
