Treatment and disposal of tyres: Two EU approaches. A review

Sustainability, as a key concept in the education field, has submitted a relevant change during the last years. Thus, there is a growing debate about its meaning. It has undergone a crucial merging of significances from many fields: Ecology, environmental awareness, but also from politics, ethics or even spiritual approaches. All these fields have been co-involved in the building of such subject concept. In this sense, this article addresses the different ways of understanding sustainability as a polyhedral concept and how sustainability can be understood under the umbrella of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, it is proposed a conceptual framework to teach this UN Program at Higher Education, contributing to the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students from both a professional and a personal point of view. This framework is applied in a case study—in particular, in a course of Primary Teacher Degree called Didactics of Matter and Energy. This article finishes with practical consideration to build a change-maker University.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have profoundly changed many aspects of life, including the nature of entertainment, work, communication, education, healthcare, industrial production and business, social relations and conflicts. They have had a radical and widespread impact on our moral lives and hence on contemporary ethical debates. The Cambridge Handbook of Information and Computer Ethics provides an ambitious and authoritative introduction to the field, with discussions of a range of topics including privacy, ownership, freedom of speech, responsibility, technological determinism, the digital divide, cyber warfare, and online pornography. It offers an accessible and thoughtful survey of the transformations brought about by ICTs and their implications for the future of human life and society, for the evaluation of behaviour, and for the evolution of moral values and rights. It will be a valuable book for all who are interested in the ethical aspects of the information society in which we live.

The Cambridge Handbook of Information and Computer Ethics

The purpose of this study is to identify the negative effects of social network sites such as Facebook among Asia Pacific University scholars. The researcher, distributed 152 surveys to students of the chosen university to examine and study the negative effects. Electronic communication is emotionally gratifying but how do such technological distraction impact on academic performance? Because of social media platform’s widespread adoption by university students, there is an interest in how Facebook is related to academic performance. This paper measure frequency of use, participation in activities and time spent preparing for class, in order to know if Facebook affects the performance of students. Moreover, the impact of social network site on academic performance also raised another major concern which is health. Today social network sites are running the future and carrier of students. Social network sites were only an electronic connection between users, but unfortunately it has become an addiction for students. This paper examines the relationship between social network sites and health threat. Lastly, the paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the law and privacy of Facebook. It shows how Facebook users socialize on the site, while they are not aware or misunderstand the risk involved and how their privacy suffers as a result.

Implantación de una Política de Responsabilidad Social Corporativa Estratégica: Caso de una gran compañía multinacional japonesa del sector de la automoción.

This paper presents an experience in developing professional ethics by an approach that integrates knowledge, teaching methodologies and assessment coherently. It has been implemented for students in both the Software Engineering and Computer Engineering degree programs of the Technical University of Madrid, in which professional ethics is studied as a part of a required course. Our contribution of this paper is a model for formative assessment that clarifies the learning goals, enhances the results, simplifies the scoring and can be replicated in other contexts. A quasi-experimental study that involves many of the students of the required course has been developed. To test the effectiveness of the teaching process, the analysis of ethical dilemmas and the use of deontological codes have been integrated, and a scoring rubric has been designed. Currently, this model is also being used to develop skills related to social responsibility and sustainability for undergraduate and postgraduate students of diverse academic context.
