Analyzing Students' Problem-Solving Sequences: A Human-in-the-Loop Approach
Erica Kleinman,Murtuza N. Shergadwala,Magy Seif El-Nasr,Zhaoqing Teng,Jennifer Villareale,Andy Bryant,Jichen Zhu +6 more
TL;DR: A human-in-the-loop approach to Sequence analysis that uses visualization to allow a stakeholder to better understand both the data and the algorithm.
"What else can I do?" Examining the Impact of Community Data on Adaptation and Quality of Reflection in an Educational Game
Erica Kleinman,Jennifer Villareale,Murtuza N. Shergadwala,Zhaoqing Teng,Andy Bryant,Jichen Zhu,Magy Seif El-Nasr +6 more
- 19 Apr 2023
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors examine how comparison with other players' data influenced adaptation, a part of reflection, in the context of a game that teaches parallel programming and conclude that comparison with peers does significantly impact willingness to try a different approach, but suggest that there may also be other ways.
Towards an Understanding of How Players Make Meaning from Post-Play Process Visualizations
Erica Kleinman,Jennifer Villareale,Murtuza N. Shergadwala,Zhaoqing Teng,Andy Bryant,Jichen Zhu,Magy Seif El-Nasr +6 more
- 01 Jan 2022
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors examine how players make meaning from process visualizations of other players' gameplay and identify two interpretation methods comprised of six techniques and discuss what these results mean for future use of player-facing process visualisations.

"And then they died": Using Action Sequences for Data Driven,Context Aware Gameplay Analysis
Erica Kleinman,Sabbir Ahmad,Zhaoqing Teng,Andy Bryant,Truong-Huy D. Nguyen,Casper Harteveld,Magy Seif El-Nasr +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors combine Interactive Behavior Analytics (IBA) and sequence analysis (SA) to create a human-in-the-loop data analysis methodology that uses behavioral labels and visualizations to allow analysts to examine player behavior in a way that is context sensitive, scalable, and generalizable.

Modeling Individual and Team Behavior through Spatio-temporal Analysis
Sabbir Ahmad,Andy Bryant,Erica Kleinman,Zhaoqing Teng,Truong-Huy D. Nguyen,Magy Seif El-Nasr +5 more
TL;DR: A new methodology, called Interactive Behavior Analytics (IBA), comprised of two visualization systems, a labeling mechanism, and abstraction algorithms that use Dynamic Time Wrapping and clustering algorithms to facilitate knowledge discovery from game data is presented.
