TL;DR: It is suggested that one important aspect of the effects of antidepressants in vivo may be to facilitate GR-mediated feedback inhibition on the HPA axis, by facilitating GR translocation and function, and thereby reverse glucocorticoid hypersecretion in depression.

Maintenance of Basal ACTH Levels by Corticosterone and RU28362, but not Aldosterone: Relationship to Available Type I and Type II Corticosteroid Receptor Levels in Brain and Pituitary
TL;DR: Results indicate that corticosteroid activation of neural type II receptors is sufficient to maintain morning levels of basal ACTH secretion, and substantiate the in vivo cortiosteroid receptor subtype selectivity of aldosterone and RU28362.
