Visceral adipose tissue and low-density lipoprotein particle size in middle-aged versus young men.
Isabelle Lemieux,Agnès Pascot,André Tchernof,Jean Bergeron,Denis Prud'homme,Claude Bouchard,Jean-Pierre Després +6 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that in the absence of an important age-related change in TG levels, age per se is associated with an increased concentration of atherogenic LDL particles rather than a reduction of LDL particle diameter.
Characterization of UDP-glucuronosyltransferases active on steroid hormones.
Dean W. Hum,Alain Bélanger,Éric Lévesque,Olivier Barbier,Martin Beaulieu,Caroline Albert,Michel Vallée,Chantal Guillemette,André Tchernof,David Turgeon,Stéphanie Dubois +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that human and monkey are unique in having high plasma levels of C19 steroid glucuronides and the presence of UGT transcripts and proteins in extrahepatic tissues in both species indicates the relevance of steroids glucuronidation in tissues other than the liver.
Regional differences in adipose tissue metabolism in obese men.
Ariane Boivin,Gaetan Brochu,Simon Marceau,Picard Marceau,Frédéric-Simon Hould,André Tchernof +5 more
TL;DR: In normal-weight to morbidly obese men, although adipocyte size and lipolysis tended to increase with higher waist circumference, no difference was observed between the omental and subcutaneous fat depot.
Oxidative activity of 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase on testosterone in male abdominal adipose tissues and cellular localization of 17β-HSD type 2.
Mohamed Fouad Mansour,Mélissa Pelletier,Marie-Michèle Boulet,Dominique Mayrand,Gaetan Brochu,Stéfane Lebel,Donald Poirier,Julie Fradette,Katherine Cianflone,Van Luu-The,André Tchernof +10 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that conversion of testosterone to 4-dione detected in abdominal adipose tissue is caused by 17β-HSD type 2 which is localized in the vasculature of the adipose compartment.
Association between lifestyle habits and adiposity values among children exposed and unexposed to gestational diabetes mellitus in utero.
Mélissa Bélanger,Camille Dugas,Julie Perron,Stephanie-May Ruchat,S. John Weisnagel,Isabelle Marc,André Tchernof,Julie Robitaille +7 more
TL;DR: Imaging lifestyle habits among GDM+ children could represent a promising approach to prevent deteriorated adiposity values, and children with a healthy lifestyle with meeting 3-4 lifestyle recommendations tended to have lower percentage of fat mass and android fat mass than those with an unhealthy lifestyle.
