Hachtel's Augmented Matrix Method - A Rapid Method Improving Numerical Stability in Power System Static State Estimation
TL;DR: In this article, the so-called Hachtel's augmented matrix method was applied to static state estimation in the main Norwegian grid, and it was compared to two versions of the normal equations approach and is found to greatly improve numerical stability, which is important for ill-conditioned systems.

TL;DR: At each iteration of a standard non-linear weighted least squares (WLS) estimation algorithm one has to solve a linear least squares problem which is large and sparse, so a good method should be able to deal with linear constraints, arising from power balance equations for buses with zero net injections.
