Induction of Radiata Pine Somatic Embryogenesis at High Temperatures Provokes a Long-Term Decrease in DNA Methylation/Hydroxymethylation and Differential Expression of Stress-Related Genes.
Ander Castander-Olarieta,Catia Pereira,Ester Sales,Mónica Meijón,Isabel Arrillaga,María Jesús Cañal,Tomás Goicoa,María Dolores Ugarte,Paloma Moncaleán,Itziar A. Montalbán +9 more
- 13 Dec 2020
TL;DR: Results indicated that the highest temperatures led to hypomethylation of both embryonal masses and somatic plants, and the transcripts of several proteins related with translation, oxidative stress response, and drought resilience were differentially expressed.

Cytokinins are involved in drought tolerance of Pinus radiata plants originating from embryonal masses induced at high temperatures.
Ander Castander-Olarieta,Paloma Moncaleán,Catia Pereira,Aleš Pěnčík,Ivan Petřík,Iva Pavlović,Ondřej Novák,Miroslav Strnad,Tomás Goicoa,María Dolores Ugarte,Itziar A. Montalbán +10 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that phytohormones could be potential regulators of stress-response processes during initial steps of somatic embryogenesis and that they may have delayed implications in further developmental processes, determining the performance of the generated plants.

Heat Stress in Pinus halepensis Somatic Embryogenesis Induction: Effect in DNA Methylation and Differential Expression of Stress-Related Genes
Catia Pereira,Ander Castander-Olarieta,Ester Sales,Itziar A. Montalbán,Jorge Canhoto,Paloma Moncaleán +5 more
- 29 Oct 2021
TL;DR: In this article, high temperatures during different stages of conifer somatic embryogenesis (SE) modify subsequent phases of the process and the behavior of the resulting ex vitro somatic plants, which is one of the most important abiotic stresses that forest trees have to overcome.

Embryonal Masses Induced at High Temperatures in Aleppo Pine: Cytokinin Profile and Cytological Characterization
Catia Pereira,Ander Castander-Olarieta,Itziar A. Montalbán,Aleš Pěnčík,Ivan Petřík,Iva Pavlović,Eliana de Medeiros Oliveira,Hugo Pacheco de Freitas Fraga,Miguel Pedro Guerra,Ondřej Novák,Miroslav Strnad,Jorge Canhoto,Paloma Moncaleán +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, a morphological characterization of the embryogenic cultures showed small differences in the number of starch grains, lipid bodies, and phenolic compounds between treatments, which corroborate the idea that cytokinins could be potential regulators of stress-response processes during initial steps of somatic embryogenesis.

Proteome-Wide Analysis of Heat-Stress in Pinus radiata Somatic Embryos Reveals a Combined Response of Sugar Metabolism and Translational Regulation Mechanisms.
Ander Castander-Olarieta,Catia Pereira,Itziar A. Montalbán,Vera M. Mendes,Sandra Correia,Sonia Suárez-Álvarez,Bruno Manadas,Jorge Canhoto,Paloma Moncaleán +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the proteome of radiata pine embryos was analyzed by LC-MS after the application of high temperatures during initiation of embryonal masses, and the content of specific soluble sugars and sugar alcohols was analyzed using HPLC.
