ABSTRACT This paper reviews work on psychological trauma related to armed conflict in Eastern Europe and Ukraine and on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Any aggression evokes emotions of fear, anger, despair, horror, confusion, and hatred. The research aims to determine the psychological consequences caused by the current hostilities that younger generations of Ukrainians will face in the future and compare them with similar experiences in Eastern European countries. The research results showed the presence of signs of depression and PTSD in all categories of respondents. The severe social and psychological problems caused by the hostilities in Ukraine have negative impact on family ties and intergenerational interaction. There need to be psychological forms of help that can improve the lives of victims and can prevent the negative impact of trauma on future generations.

The trauma of war: implications for future generations in Ukraine (comparison with the Eastern European countries that were at war at the end of the 20th century)

The purpose of the article was the adaption and the validation of Satisfaction with Life Scale in correlation with measures of the curiosity and the Big Five personality traits in the case of a sample of emerging adults. In addition to SWLS, we applied inventories for curiosity (CEI-II) and Big Five personality traits (BFI-10) on a group of students emerging as adults (N = 520; age = 19,70). Both the exploratory factor analysis and the confirmatory factor analysis showed an adequate fit of a single-factor model (χ2/df = 2,19; CFI = .99; RMSEA = .049). This structure was confirmed by a multigroup confirmatory factor analysis and gender invariant. SWLS shows acceptable internal consistency (α = .79). Supporting its criterion-related validity, the SWLS correlated positively with curiosity and its factors, stretching and embracing, with all the personality traits, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, except for openness, and negatively with neuroticism. The results show that SWLS is fit for the work with emerging adults.

Satisfaction with Life Scale: New Psychometric Evidence in a Romanian Emerging Adults Sample

The Satisfaction With Life Scale-Children (SWLS-C) is a self-report instrument measuring the life satisfaction of children and early adolescents aged 9–14. The present study introduced the adaptation and psychometric findings of the Indonesian version of SWLS-C. The six steps of the International Test Commission were used as guidelines for adaptation processes. Three hundred and twelve participants were recruited (63.1% girls; M = 12.52, SD = 1.54). This study assessed SWLS-C’s reliability using internal consistency, construct validity using CFA, and concurrent validity by correlating the scores with established instruments GSES, PANAS, and K-6. The findings show that the Indonesian version of SWLS-C has good reliability and construct validity. In addition, the Indonesian version of the SWLS-C showed positive correlations with self-efficacy and positive affect. The scale correlate negatively with negative affect and psychological distress. In conclusion, SWLS-C is a reliable and valid measure of life satisfaction in Indonesian children and adolescents.

Adaptation of the Satisfaction With Life Scale – Children (SWLS-C) for Children and Adolescents: Indonesian Version

Abstract Background The WHO-5 Wellbeing Index is a widely used tool for assessing psychological well-being. Despite its global application, its adaptation and validation for the Azerbaijani population had not been previously explored. This study aims to fill this gap by adapting the WHO-5 Wellbeing Index for Azerbaijani adults and examining its relationship with psychological distress, resilience, and life satisfaction. Methods A sample of 875 Azerbaijani adults aged 18 to 89 (mean age = 29.13, SD = 10.98) participated in this study. The adaptation process included confirmatory factor analysis to test the original 5-item structure of the index in the Azerbaijani context. Additionally, item response theory analysis was employed to evaluate the discriminative values of the items. Reliability was assessed through various methods, including Cronbach’s alpha, McDonald’s omega, and Guttmann’s lambda. Results Confirmatory factor analysis supported the original 5-item structure of the WHO-5 Wellbeing Index for the Azerbaijani sample, demonstrating alignment with the index’s original version. All items showed acceptable discriminative values in item response theory analysis. The index also exhibited sufficient reliability, as evidenced by Cronbach’s alpha, McDonald’s omega, and Guttmann’s lambda. Correlation and network analyses indicated significant associations of the WHO-5 Wellbeing Index with psychological distress, resilience, and life satisfaction. Specifically, the index was negatively correlated with depression, anxiety, and stress, and positively correlated with resilience and life satisfaction. Conclusion The findings suggest that the WHO-5 Wellbeing Index is a valid and reliable tool for assessing psychological well-being in the Azerbaijani population. Its significant associations with psychological distress, resilience, and life satisfaction further affirm its utility in this cultural context. 

Azerbaijani adaptation of the WHO-5 wellbeing index: investigating its relationship with psychological distress, resilience, and life satisfaction

The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) is a globally recognized scale for the measurement of subjective well-being in more than thirty six languages. Currently there is no adapted version of the SWLS in Azerbaijani language. The aim of the present study was to complete forward and backward translations of the SWLS and maintaining equivalence to examine its psychometric properties in a sample of 374 subjects in Azerbaijan. The results showed that the Azerbaijani version of SWLS had good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.81) with confirmatory factor analysis showing a single factorial structure. The findings suggest that theAzerbaijani version of the SWLS is a valid instrument to use among Azerbaijan samples.

Psychometric Evaluation of the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) in Azerbaijan

Introduction The emotional, behavioral and psychosocial effects of chaotic environments following wars and armed conflicts in terms of exposure to trauma and displacement is well recognized. School-age children who are directly exposed to or witnessed negative effects of armed conflicts show an array of emotional and behavioral problems. Objectives Our study aimed to examine the mental health conditions of children living in war and conflict zones and attending primary schools in Agdam. Methods The study sample comprised of 617 children (mean age 8.9, SD 1.24; 50.7% female), residing in the conflict areas in the southwestern of Azerbaijan. The children were evaluated with the previously validated Azerbaijani version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) Teacher Form. Results About a third of children (32.7%) had abnormal total scores, and a fifth (21.4%) were in borderline range. The SDQ subscale scores included emotional problems (19.4%); conduct problems (20.3%), hyperactivity/inattention (12.2%), peer relationship problems (31.1%), and pro-social behavior difficulties (13.1%). As a result, externalizing problem scores were higher in males (p<.001) and internalizing problems in females (p<.05). Due to correlation analysis, age is negatively and significantly related with externalising (p<.05), internalising (p<.01), and total difficulty (p<.05) scores. Conclusions The findings of the study show that more than half of the children living in the war zone in Azerbaijan suffer from mental health problems and highlight the need for child mental health services and family supports in the region.
