Research over the past three decades has established that hope is related to positive outcomes. Hope therapy was originally developed to optimize successful goals pursuits by increasing hopeful thought. Here, we briefly review the current state of hope therapy research and offer directions for future investigations. We note that hope therapy has been adapted to be delivered in different formats, by providers from various professional backgrounds, and to participants presenting with a variety of chronic health conditions. We suggest there is a need to reach a consensus about what characterizes hope therapy. Further, we note the need for well-designed trials to test potential mechanisms of change. We believe that these future directions will result in a more efficacious hope therapy that can be widely disseminated.

Hope therapy.

As at a high-risk group of psychological distress, nurses generally experience varying degrees of stress, anxiety, and depression. This paper identifies the positive factors that may negatively regulate the psychological pain of clinical nurses and their mechanisms of action, providing reliable references for clinical nurse support management. The effects and mechanisms of hope and the two components of grit consistency of interest and perseverance of effort) on clinical nurses’ psychological distress (depression, anxiety, and stress) were observed in this study. A total of 635 Chinese clinical nurses (90.4% female) completed an anonymous questionnaire for the survey. As expected, hope, consistency of interest, and perseverance of effort were negatively correlated with the three indicators of psychological distress (r = −0.21 ~ −0.38, p < 0.01). Path analysis results showed that hope significantly mediated the negative effect of consistency of interest on psychological distress, with an effect of 12.96%. Hope also covered up the perseverance of effort on psychological distress, the effect of 110.63%. In the influence of consistency of interest and perseverance of effort on psychological distress, hope contributed a vital mediating. Based on these results, it can be concluded that grit and hope have protective effects on psychological distress in clinical nurses. Significantly increasing the level of hope or grit may effectively prevent and reduce psychological distress in clinical nurses.

Turkish midwives' experiences and opinions in promoting normal births: A grounded theory study.

Along with other interventions, spiritual experiences, hope and living in present are very important among patients with cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between spiritual experiences and hope with living in the present among men in Tehran in 2016.Method: This descriptive and correlation study was conducted on a sample of 100 men with cancer who were in Tehran by 2016, using available sampling method. The participants completed three questionnaires: Snyder's Hope Questionnaire, Underwood and Tersi's Spiritual Experiences, and Sepahvand and Arab’s Living in Present. Data analysis was performed using single-variable and multiple regression analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient. In this research, all ethical issues were observed and the researchers declared no conflicts of interests.Results: The findings indicated a significant positive correlation between hope and living in present time (p<.01) and also between spiritual experiences and living in present time (p<.05).Conclusion: It seems that therapists need to consider the positive psychological and spiritual role of accepting and improving the treatment of cancer. Spiritual experience which involves communication with God, prayers, and receiving spirituality in life can lead to more congruent behaviors among cancer patients such as finding meaning in life and the experience of living in present. Effectiveness of Group Hope Therapy on the Psychological Indicators in Women With Addicted Husbands

Background and objectives: Pregnancy is one of the most important and stressful periods of women's lives. Recent studies have indicated an increasing trend in caesarean section rates. Although women are becoming more impatient and less resilient about vaginal delivery, raising awareness on stress management and resilience increases women’s readiness for the important task of motherhood. The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of an accompanying midwife on maternal resilience and preferred method of delivery in pregnant women. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was performed on pregnant women who were in the final month of pregnancy and referred to the Khatam-al-Anbia and Baghiyyatollah al-Azam hospitals in Tehran (Iran) for periodic examinations in 2018. Overall, 150 pregnant women (75 with an accompanying midwife and 75 without an accompanying midwife) were selected using simple random sampling. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale was used to assess maternal resilience. In addition, the delivery preference (natural childbirth or cesarean section) was determined in the scale. Data were analyzed in SPSS 16 using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics at significance level of 0.05. Results: Pregnant women with an accompanying midwife had a significantly higher mean resilience score than those without an accompanying midwife (P=0.002). Moreover, the resilience score had a significant impact on subjects’ preferred route of delivery (P <0.01). Conclusion: The findings of this study show that pregnant women accompanied by a midwife during pregnancy have better resilience and tendency towards vaginal delivery. .
