The study investigated the effectiveness of multimedia learning packages in improving the attitudes of students toward learning Biology in secondary schools. The study employed a quantitative and qualitative research approach. The population for the study consisted of all students offering Biology as a subject in the senior secondary schools in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Nigeria, from where a sample of 80 students was randomly selected from three secondary schools and assigned to three groups (one control and two experimental groups). Two multimedia instructional learning packages (MILP) were designed for the study. The topic treated was Cell Division, and the study lasted for six weeks. The packages and all instruments used were validated for content and construct validity, and reliability test was also done. The results showed that multimedia instructional packages used in teaching and learning Biology in secondary schools enhanced better students’ engagements and positive attitudes toward learning. It was concluded that students developed positive attitudes toward learning Biology after using the packages and that multimedia instructional packages are an interesting and creative method of teaching, learning, and enhancing positive attitudes towards learning among secondary school students.

The Effectiveness of Multimedia Instructional Learning Packages in Enhancing Secondary School Students’ Attitudes toward Biology

This research and development aim at knowing the effectiveness of web-based animation videos application on environmental education of elementary school students in East Jakarta in Indonesia. Web-based animation videos for environmental education produced consisted of climate change, mangrove forest, waste recycling, biodiversity, and ozone depletion animation video pages.  Student environmental education measured was related to satisfying student natural curiosity, enhancing environmental awareness, and strengthening student pro-conservation values.  In the conclusion, it is highlighted that there is a positive effect of web-based animation videos application on student environmental education at elementary school students in Jakarta in Indonesia

Web-Based Animation Video for Student Environmental Education at Elementary Schools

This study examined the impact of teaching biology using interactive multimedia on the students’ academic performance in biology at Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSS). This study was conducted in three secondary schools in the Dedza district, in the central region of Malawi. A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental approach was used in this investigation. A total number of 189 Form Four students were selected from the three schools. The schools were categorized into three groups, namely: (a) urban, (b) rural, and (c) control. The control group received instruction using a teacher-centered approach, while the experimental groups received instruction using interactive multimedia resources. The pretest was conducted for three weeks, after which the posttest was administered. One-way ANOVA in IBM-SPSS software was used to analyse the data. Our findings showed that multimedia instruction packages had a significant impact on student performance (F (2, 188) = 126.557, p < .001). Furthermore, after the intervention, the scores of the rural group and the urban group significantly varied (p < .001). Gender had a significant influence on the performance of students in biology (F (1, 188) = 8.78, p = .003). Therefore, the study concludes that the use of multimedia instructional packages helps learners understand abstract concepts in biology, and the study further recommends that multimedia instructional packages be used to teach hard-to-grasp concepts in biology in CDSS.

Examining the Impact of Interactive Multimedia Instruction on the Performance of Secondary School Students in Biology in Dedza District, Malawi

Scenarios and narratives of ICT and environmental education: a pilot study on nursery school teacher’s perspectives

The development of visualisation technology has opened new channels for putting educational and instructional concepts into practice. It effectively conveys knowledge and gives students the chance to organise and study exercises at their own pace. Visualization products combine text, images, sounds, educational, and amusing creations. It employs a variety of communication methods, including written text, recorded data, numeric data, drawings, photos, voice recordings, and videos. The present paper evaluates the comparative effectiveness of the visualization learning packages and conventional method for learning botany to XI class students. 50 Botany students of XI class of one Government school of Salem district were the subjects of the study. The data collection tools were the Visualization learning package and Botany Achievement Test. The Topic “Photosynthesis” was taught to the botany students of the control group through the conventional method of teaching and experimental group through a visualization learning package. The results of the t-test analysis of the pre-test and post-test mean achievement test scores revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the achievement level of botany students of the control group and the experimental group. The findings of the study suggest that the Visualization learning package could be considered a better alternative to the conventional method for teaching botany.

A Comparative Study of the Effectiveness of Visualization Learning Package and Conventional Method for Learning Botany

This study investigated the comparative effectiveness of teaching through the use of interactive multimedia and conventional teaching method in biology on senior high school students concerning students' achievement. The pretest-posttest non-equivalent quasi-experimental design was used for this study. One hundred and ten (110) form three (Form 3) General Science students who had Biology as an Elective subject were selected for the study. They were grouped and labeled control and experimental groups. Students in the experimental group were taught through the use of interactive multimedia whereas the control group was taught through the traditional teaching approach. The study found that both methods were quite effective for teaching Photosynthesis in Biology. However, out of the two methods, the multimedia approach was found more suitable for teaching abstract topics. The study also reported no statistically significant differences in the students' academic performance by gender. These findings suggest that the academic achievements of students in Biology can be improved with multimedia instruction. The study recommends that the computer should be used to complement the teachers' teaching but should not take over the teaching process. A similar study could be carried out in a similar environment but should include more than one topic as this study used only one topic.
