Hot-electron effect in superconductors and its applications for radiation sensors
TL;DR: In this article, the main aspects of nonequilibrium hot-electron phenomena in superconductors and various theoretical models developed to describe the hotelectron effect are discussed, and the most successful practical devices such as terahertz mixers and direct intensity detectors for far-infrared radiation are presented.
New cryogenic heterodyne techniques applied in TELIS: the balloon-borne THz and submillimeter limb sounder for atmospheric research

- 10 Nov 2003
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a design concept for a new state-of-the-art balloon borne atmospheric monitor that will allow enhanced limb sounding of the Earth's atmosphere within the submillimeter and far-infrared wavelength spectral range: TELIS, TErahertz and submm LImb Sounder.

Imaging terahertz radar for security applications
Alexei Semenov,Heiko Richter,Ute Böttger,Heinz-Wilhelm Hübers +3 more
- 03 Apr 2008
TL;DR: The design and performance of 0.8-THz imaging radar is described that is capable to detect concealed objects at a distance of more than 20 meter and implements a sensor fusion technique that greatly improves the ability to identify concealed objects.

Alexei Semenov,Oleg Cojocari,Arne Hoehl,Heinz-Wilhelm Hübers,Ralph Müller,Andreas Pohl,Markus Ries,Mykola Sobornytskyy,Godehard Wüstefeld +8 more
- 01 Jul 2014
TL;DR: In this article, a wideband zero-bias Schottky diode detector was used for monitoring synchrotron radiation, with a response time of less than 6 ps and a noise equivalent power of 10 pW Hz -1/2.

Superconducting Quantum Detector for Astronomy and X -Ray Spectroscopy
Alexei Semenov,Heinz-Wilhelm Hübers,Gregory Goltsman,Konstantin Smirnov +3 more
- 01 Jan 2002
TL;DR: In this paper, the concept of ultra-sensitive energy-dispersive superconducting quantum detectors prospective for applications in astronomy and X-ray spectroscopy was proposed, which may allow realizing background limited noise equivalent power 10−21 W Hz−1/2 in the terahertz range when exposed to 4-K background radiation or counting of 6-keV photon with almost 10-4 energy resolution.
