An Expectation Maximization Method for Joint Estimation of Emission Activity Distribution and Photon Attenuation Map in PET
Alexander Mihlin,Craig S. Levin +1 more
TL;DR: Numerical experiments indicate that in the presence of noise, joint EMAA estimation converges to the true emission activity distribution with root mean square errors of 4% and 0.5% respectively in estimation of lung- and myocardial emission activity distributions for a computational XCAT thorax phantom.

An MLEM method for joint tissue activity distribution and photon attenuation map reconstruction in PET
Alexander Mihlin,Craig S. Levin +1 more
- 01 Oct 2013
TL;DR: In this article, a Maximum Likelihood Expectation Maximization (MLEM) method is proposed for joint tissue activity distribution and photon attenuation map reconstruction from Positron Emission Tomography (PET) data.

Simultaneous attenuation and activity reconstruction for Positron Emission Tomography
Alexander Mihlin,Craig S. Levin +1 more
- 30 Oct 2014
TL;DR: In this article, a method of PET image reconstruction is provided that includes obtaining intra-patient tissue activity distribution and photon attenuation map data using a PET/MRI scanner, and implementing a Maximum Likelihood Expectation Maximization (MLEM) method in conjunction with a specific set of latent random variables, using an appropriately programmed computer and graphics processing unit.
