Increasing the expressive power of task analysis: Systematic comparison and empirical assessment of tool-supported task models

The aspect of human interaction becomes more and more relevant for service-oriented applications. On one hand, current development approaches support the composition of services but neglect the creation of user interfaces. On the other hand, task-based modeling of user interactions is well established but poorly integrated into service-oriented development. In this paper we propose an integrated modelling approach for the task-driven development of interactive service-oriented applications. Our central concept is the introduction of annotations as part of the Web service description. These annotations cover information relevant for the semi-automatic generation of task models and user interfaces. We present the annotation concept as well as concepts for the integration of the annotations into a task-driven software development methodology.

Improving Task-driven Software Development Approaches for Creating Service-Based Interactive Applications by Using Annotated Web Services

We will show how to build innovative multimodal dialog user interfaces that integrate multiple heterogeneous web services as data sources on the basis of the Ontology-based Dialog Platform (ODP). More specifically, we will describe how to exploit ODP’s well-defined extension points and how generic ODP processing modules can be adopted, in order to support a rapid dialog system engineering process. By means of the latest ODP-based educational information system CIRIUS and the ODP workbench, a set of Eclipse-based editors and tools, we demonstrate step-by-step along the generic multimodal dialog processing chain what has to be done for developing a new multimodal dialog user interface for a specific application domain.

Building Multimodal Dialog User Interfaces in the Context of the Internet of Services

In model-driven user interface development, several models are used to
 describe different aspects of user interface when level of detail varies. The
 relations between the models are established through model transformations.
 The Model Driven Engineering (MDE) approach has been proposed in software
 engineering domain in order to provide techniques and tools to deal with
 models in the automated way. In this paper, we will review existing user
 interface languages that gain wider acceptance, and discuss their
 applicability for model-driven user interface development.

Languages for model-driven development of user interfaces: Review of the state of the art

Recently, industry has adopted multimodal, context-aware applications. However, addressing various modalities on heterogeneous platforms implies a demanding development effort. Therefore, we present a task-centric methodology and a tool chain leveraging the development of adaptive multimodal applications.

In order to improve efficiency the tool chain is based on the Model Driven Architecture approach emphasizing two key principles: model-to-model transformations and tool integration.
