Molecular Regulation of Copper Homeostasis in the Male Gonad during the Process of Spermatogenesis
Sylwia Herman,Paweł Lipiński,Mateusz Ogórek,Rafał R. Starzyński,Paweł Grzmil,Aleksandra Bednarz,Małgorzata Lenartowicz +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe coordinated regulation/functioning of copper-binding proteins expressed in germ and Sertoli cells with special emphasis on copper transporters, copper transporting ATPases, and SOD1, a copperdependent antioxidant enzyme.

Mice Overexpressing Both Non-Mutated Human SOD1 and Mutated SOD1G93A Genes: A Competent Experimental Model for Studying Iron Metabolism in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Anna Gajowiak,Agnieszka Styś,Rafał R. Starzyński,Aleksandra Bednarz,Małgorzata Lenartowicz,Robert Staroń,Paweł Lipiński +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the overexpression of both S OD1 and SOD1G93A genes account for a substantial increase in SOD 1 protein levels and activity in selected tissues and that not all the changes in iron metabolism genes expression are specific for the overexpressing of the mutated form of SOD2.
Marginally reduced maternal hepatic and splenic ferroportin under severe nutritional iron deficiency in pregnancy maintains systemic iron supply
Rafał Mazgaj,Paweł Lipiński,Eunice Sindhuvi Edison,Aleksandra Bednarz,Robert Staroń,Olga Haberkiewicz,Małgorzata Lenartowicz,Ewa Smuda,Aneta Jończy,Rafał R. Starzyński +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that iron recycled from senescent erythrocytes becomes a predominant source of this microelement that can be transferred to the placenta in females with depleted iron stores.

Atp7a and Atp7b regulate copper homeostasis in developing male germ cells in mice
Mateusz Ogórek,Małgorzata Lenartowicz,Rafał R. Starzyński,Aneta Jończy,Robert Staroń,Andrzej Doniec,Wojciech Krzeptowski,Aleksandra Bednarz,Olga Pierzchała,Paweł Lipiński,Zenon Rajfur,Zbigniew Baster,Patrycja Gibas-Tybur,Paweł Grzmil +13 more
TL;DR: This is the first study to give a comprehensive view on the activity of copper-related genes during spermatogenesis in mice and it is demonstrated that within seminiferous tubuli, ATP7A is mainly present in early meiotic germ cells and in Sertoli cells.

Role of the kidneys in the redistribution of heme-derived iron during neonatal hemolysis in mice.
Aleksandra Bednarz,Paweł Lipiński,Rafał R. Starzyński,Mateusz Tomczyk,Witold Nowak,Olga Mucha,Mateusz Ogórek,Olga Pierzchała,Aneta Jończy,Robert Staroń,Julia Śmierzchalska,Zenon Rajfur,Zbigniew Baster,Alicja Jozkowicz,Małgorzata Lenartowicz +14 more
TL;DR: By adjusting the expression of iron-handling proteins in response to the disappearance of hemolysis in mouse neonates, the kidneys may play a role in the detoxification of iron and contribute to its recirculation from the primary urine to the blood.
