Advances in Unmanned Aerial System Remote Sensing for Precision Viticulture.
Alberto Sassu,Filippo Gambella,Luca Ghiani,Luca Mercenaro,Maria Carmela Caria,Antonio Luigi Pazzona +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a complete overview of the application of UAVs in precision viticulture, focusing on the different application purposes, the applied equipment, the potential of technologies combined with UASs for identifying vineyards' variability.

In-Field Automatic Detection of Grape Bunches under a Totally Uncontrolled Environment.
TL;DR: In this article, a deep convolutional neural network was used to detect vine bunches directly on the field and achieved a 91% mean Average Precision (AP) for the task.

Development of a Matlab Code for the Evaluation of Spray Distribution with Water-Sensitive Paper
Luca Ghiani,Alberto Sassu,Davide Piccirilli,Gian Luca Marcialis,Filippo Gambella +4 more
- 12 Sep 2019
TL;DR: The objective of work was to develop a MATLAB code to evaluate the spray distribution over WSPs, and it was possible to assess the number of the drops per cm2, the Normal Median Diameter (NMD) and the Normal Volume D diameter (VMD).

Detection and Monitoring of Alien Weeds Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle in Agricultural Systems in Sardinia (Italy)
Vanessa Lozano,Giuseppe Brundu,Luca Ghiani,Davide Piccirilli,Alberto Sassu,Maria Teresa Tiloca,Luigi Ledda,Filippo Gambella +7 more
- 12 Sep 2019
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated how UAV imagery can be used to assess the cover of Oxalis pes-caprae, present in several crops in Sardinia as an alien invasive weed, with negative direct and indirect effects on the affected crops.

Development and Implementation of an Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) Spraying Equipment Installed on a Commercial UAV
Alberto Sassu,Luca Ghiani,Antonio Luigi Pazzona,Filippo Gambella +3 more
- 12 Sep 2019
TL;DR: This work developed a small pesticide spraying system (<1 kg weight payload), with the purpose to install it on board of a commercial drone, Phantom 4 pro DJI© (with a maximum payload of 3.0 kg), in order to demonstrate his potential for manage commercial bio-pesticide on horticultural crops.
