Differential colorectal carcinogenesis: Molecular basis and clinical relevance
Alberto Morán,Paloma Ortega,Carmen de Juan,Tamara Fernández-Marcelo,Cristina Frías,Andrés Sánchez-Pernaute,Antoni Torres,Eduardo Díaz-Rubio,Pilar Iniesta,Manuel Benito +9 more
TL;DR: Two main colorectal carcinogenesis pathways have clear molecular differences, but they also present distinct histopathological features, and their clinical behaviours are completely different, having the "mutator" tumours a better outcome than the "suppressor" tumouring.

Clinical relevance of MMP-9, MMP-2, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 in colorectal cancer.
Alberto Morán,Pilar Iniesta,Cristina García-Aranda,C. De Juan,Antonio Díaz-López,Andrés Sánchez-Pernaute,Antoni Torres,Eduardo Díaz-Rubio,J.L. Balibrea,Manuel Benito +9 more
TL;DR: TIMP-1 level evaluation emerges as the main prognostic factor in relation to Gelatinases A and B activity in CRC and different roles have to be attributed to M MP-2 and MMP-9 in CRC progression.

Impairment of Stromelysin-1 Transcriptional Activity by Promoter Mutations in High Microsatellite Instability Colorectal Tumors
Alberto Morán,Pilar Iniesta,Carmen de Juan,Cristina García-Aranda,Antonio Díaz-López,Manuel Benito +5 more
TL;DR: The data show that mutations found in the polymorphic region of the MMP-3 promoter from MSI-H colorectal tumors impair its basal and induced transcriptional activity, which may contribute to their better clinical outcome.

Differential impact of p16 inactivation by promoter methylation in non-small cell lung and colorectal cancer: Clinical implications
Rosa González-Quevedo,Cristina García-Aranda,Alberto Morán,Carmen de Juan,Andrés Sánchez-Pernaute,Antoni Torres,Eduardo Díaz-Rubio,J.L. Balibrea,Manuel Benito,Pilar Iniesta +9 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that p16 alterations constitute a major molecular abnormality in NSCLC with a considerable prognosis impact, promoter methylation being an important mechanism involved in p16 silencing.

Stromelysin-1 promoter mutations impair gelatinase B activation in high microsatellite instability sporadic colorectal tumors.
Alberto Morán,Pilar Iniesta,Carmen de Juan,Rosa González-Quevedo,Andrés Sánchez-Pernaute,Eduardo Díaz-Rubio,Santiago Ramón y Cajal,Antoni Torres,José L. Balibrea,Manuel Benito +9 more
TL;DR: Testing whether tumors developed through the mutator pathway could show a decrease in matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity indicated that the MMP-3 promoter constitutes a novel target of the defective mismatch repair machinery in sporadic colorectal tumors, resulting in a dramatic decrease in the levels of the active M MP-9 form.
