TL;DR: In this article, a Mitsunobu displacement at the hydroxymethyl position of deuterium-labeled, N-substituted 2-(hydroxymmethyl)pyrroles is reported as a general procedure to determine the ability of the Nsubstituent to deactivate the heterocycle.
