An aqueous ink composition contains at least one pigment selected from the group consisting of a condensed azo pigment, a condensed polycyclic pigment, a phthalocyanine pigment, and a nickel complex azo pigment, at least an anionic surfactant with ethylene oxide group or a nonionic surfactant with ethylene oxide group as a dispersant, a wetting agent, a penetrating agent, and water, with the ink composition having a surface tension of 20 mN/m or more and less than 35 mN/m. A yellow ink containing at least one pigment selected from the group consisting of C.I. Pigment Yellow 128, C.I. Pigment Yellow 138, C.I. Pigment Yellow 151, C.I. Pigment Yellow 97, and C.I. Pigment Yellow 150, a magenta ink containing at least one pigment of C.I. Pigment Red 122 or C.I. Pigment Violet 19, a cyan ink containing at least one pigment of C.I. Pigment Blue 15:3 or C.I. Pigment Blue 15:4, each color ink further containing a specific anionic surfactant and a water-soluble organic solvent, and a black ink containing C.I. Pigment Black 7 are used together as a set of color ink compositions for ink-jet recording.

Aqueous ink composition

An aqueous ink for ink-jet printing comprising at least a water-soluble dye, a water-soluble organic solvent, a water-soluble preservative and anti-mold agent, and water, wherein (1) the water-soluble dye is a mixture of dye compounds I and II and/or III, the peak ratio of I/II and/or III of the water-soluble dye measured by liquid chromatography is in the range of 0.9 to 3.0; the total concentration of NaCl and Na2 SO4 contained in the water-soluble dye is 3.0 wt. % or less; and the concentration of Ca contained therein is 120 ppm or less; (2) the water-soluble organic solvent is a mixture consisting essentially of glycerin and at least one glycol selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol, with the content ratio of (the glycerin:the glycol) being in the range of (1:1) to (1:5) in terms of parts by weight, and the concentration of the water-soluble organic solvent in the aqueous ink is in the range of 10 wt. % to 30 wt. %; and (3) the surface tension of said aqueous ink is 50 dynes/cm or more.

Aqueous ink for ink jet printing

An improved ink suitable for ink jet printing comprising, a mixture of a colorant, an arylketoalkene stabilizing compound or a photoreactor, and a liquid vehicle, wherein the colorant is light-stable. When the photoreactor is combined with a wavelength-selective sensitizer to form a radiation transorber, the colorant is mutable upon exposure of the radiation transorber to specific, narrow bandwidth radiation. The colored composition may also contain a molecular includant having a chemical structure which defines at least one cavity wherein each of the colorant and photoreactor or radiation transorber is associated with the molecular includant. The invention also includes ink jet print cartridges containing the improved ink, ink jet printers containing the improved ink and methods of printing using the improved ink.

Ink for ink jet printers

Pigmented inks are disclosed comprising an aqueous medium, a pigment, a dispersant, and a humectant. Inks are disclosed where the humectant is a sulfonated polyethylene oxide which provides long decap times and fast drying of the printed image. Inks are further disclosed where the dispersant is an alkyl(sulfophenoxy)benzenesulfonic acid or its salt. Such dispersants reduce the agglomeration of pigment particles and reduce or eliminate the deposition of foreign substances on heater elements during the jetting process. A variety of pigments, dispersants, humectants, and aqueous media can be used. Combinations of a sulfonated polyethylene oxide humectant and an alkyl(sulfophenoxy)benzenesulfonic acid (salt) dispersant provide inks with good stability, few kogation problems, long decap times and relatively fast drying times.

Pigmented inks and humectants used therewith

A novel hot melt impulse ink jet ink is disclosed which comprises a C 20 -C 24 acid or alcohol containing vehicle, preferably behenic acid, and a suitable coloring agent. The preferred ink has a melting point above about 65° C., exhibits very good jettability, good heat stability at a reservoir temperature of 90° C., good material compatability, and an improved print quality. The preferred ink comprises about 80% natural behenic acid, 15% of a ketone (such as stearone), 3% coloring agent, and 2% of a plasticizer intended to improve print quality. The subject inks are jetted at relatively high temperatures (80°-90° C.) using impulse ink jet devices. Upon impact with the target substrate the subject inks freeze to produce a high quality print having a smear resistance approximately equal to IBM copy, and cracking resistance better than such copy.

High molecular weight, hot melt impulse ink jet ink

An aqueous fluid ink particularly well suited for use in an ink jet printer is provided. The aqueous fluid ink compositions include a humectant in combination with urea for efficiently lowering the freezing point without a significant increase in viscosity. Aqueous fluid ink compositions prepared in accordance with the invention include at least one humectant selected from the group consisting of aliphatic polyhydric alcohols, alkyl ether derivatives of the aliphatic polyhydric alcohols and acetate ester derivatives of the aliphatic polyhydric alcohols, urea, a water-soluble dye and water. Viscosity is maintained between about 2 and 3 centipoises at 20° C. and a quick drying ink is provided by adjusting the pH to between about 12 and 13.5.
