An embodiment of the present invention relates to a system to pre-process an image with low level of illumination, and a method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the system to pre-process the image with low level of illumination comprises: image input unit to receive input of image data; a brightness adjustment calculation unit to calculate a brightness adjustment value using an average brightness of the image data, and a reference image brightness; and a brightness adjustment value application unit to apply the calculated brightness adjustment value to the image data. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the system to pre-process the image with low level of illumination is able to enhance a movement detecting ability.

System for processing a low light level image and method thereof

An apparatus and a method for correcting a contrast are provided to condense an image, of which a bright area and a dark area are on extreme ends of the image, to a reference value point and expand the condensed image to a overall brightness distribution, thereby making brightness distribution uniform and accordingly improving overall visibility of the image. A low pass filter performs filtering of an inputted image. A correcting unit subtracts a brightness value of each pixel, passing through the low pass filter, from a reference value of certain brightness. The correcting unit adds the value, obtained from the above subtraction step, to an image inputted after 1 unit from the above inputted image. A distribution expansion unit re-adjusts the brightness of each pixel of the contrast-corrected image into corresponding brightness corresponding to expansion arrangement of brightness distribution so that the brightness distribution of the contrast-corrected image obtained from the correcting unit can be expanded to a wider brightness distribution.
