COPD Course and Comorbidities: Are There Gender Differences?
Marcin Grabicki,Barbara Kuźnar-Kamińska,Renata Rubinsztajn,Beata Brajer-Luftmann,Monika Kosacka,Agata Nowicka,Tomasz Piorunek,Magdalena Kostrzewska,Ryszarda Chazan,Halina Batura-Gabryel +9 more
TL;DR: This study strongly supports the existence of different gender phenotypes in COPD, especially regarding exacerbations, comorbidities, and prognosis, and indicates a need for a targeted assessment and management of COPD in women and men.

Evaluation of the phenotype pattern of macrophages isolated from malignant and non-malignant pleural effusions
Mariusz Kaczmarek,Agata Nowicka,Magdalena Kozlowska,Jakub Zurawski,Halina Batura-Gabryel,Jan Sikora +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that macrophages isolated from non-malignant effusions show a pattern comparable to M1 while those isolated from malignant effusion express similarity to M2 phenotype, but they have not shown a classical M2 pattern.

Increased Soluble VCAM-1 and Normal P-Selectin in Cystic Fibrosis: a Cross-Sectional Study
Jan Krzysztof Nowak,Irena Wojsyk-Banaszak,Edyta Mądry,Andrzej Wykretowicz,Patrycja Krzyżanowska,Sławomira Drzymała-Czyż,Agata Nowicka,Andrzej Pogorzelski,Ewa Sapiejka,Wojciech Skorupa,Mariusz Szczepanik,Aleksandra Lisowska,Jarosław Walkowiak +12 more
TL;DR: Higher sVCAM-1 concentrations in CF patients than in healthy subjects were found, which were not explained by CF characteristics, and none of the multivariable regression models was valid for the prediction of sVCam-1 and sP-selectin in CF.
Concentrations of SP-A and HSP70 are associated with polarization of macrophages in pleural effusions of non-small cell lung cancer.
Mariusz Kaczmarek,Malgorzata Lagiedo,Agnieszka Masztalerz,Magdalena Kozlowska,Agata Nowicka,Beata Brajer,Halina Batura-Gabryel,Jan Sikora +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors determined a correlation between SP-A or heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) and the development of pleural effusion (PE) associated with non-small cell lung cancer.
