Background: There are few research studies evaluating the significance of low back pain (LBP) in Iran, even though the majority of locally published surveys are written in the Persian language. In the present review study, we aimed at appraising published articles related to the burden of LBP and its divergence among different jobs. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in all accessible national and international electronic databases from 1948 to mid-2012. The international electronic databases were MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Sciences, Google Scholar, Scopus, CINAHL, and the Iranian equivalents were SID, IRANDOC, IranMedex, and Magiran. The main search terms were musculoskeletal disorders, musculoskeletal symptoms, low back pain, back pain, and Iran. All keywords were searched electronically by three Boolean operators. The inclusion criteria were age ≥10 years, study focus on LBP prevalence, inclusion of both genders, and no limitation to the study design. A dedicated STROBE questionnaire was developed as a critical appraisal tool and the quality of the identified literature was examined according to the 5-point Linker scale. Articles scoring ≥3 on the Linker scale were appraised. Each literature was screened by four reviewers independently and possible disagreements were streamlined in a joint review meeting. The extracted data were entered into a dedicated table using Microsoft Office Excel program. Data were analyzed for homogeneity using the STATA software (version 11). Results: Of the 51 articles that were included in the present review study, 35 articles reported 1-year LBP with Nordic questionnaire and 3 articles reported point prevalence of LBP. The calculated global prevalence of 1-year LBP in workers was 25% and LBP was the most prevalent issue among health care workers. There was no association between the prevalence of LBP and job classification among workers. Conclusion: LBP is the most common issue among health care workers. It is recommended that future research should focus on this job category for investigating LBP prevalence. This allows parameters that increase the frequency of LBP to be assessed and subsequently permits the reduction or elimination of such factors.

Prevalence of Low Back Pain in Health Care Workers and Comparison with Other Occupational Categories in Iran: A Systematic Review

BACKGROUND:Prevention of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSDs) is crucial as they jeopardize the well-being of the workforce in workplaces and are prevalent in developed and developing countries. OBJECTIVE:This study aimed to determine the prevalence of WRMSDs among Iranian workers. METHODS:A systematic review and meta-analysis of WRMSDs in Iran was performed by searching relevant keywords in authentic databases and search engines such as SID, Google Scholar, Medlib and PubMed. Twenty-seven published articles in the field of WRMSDs from 2001 to 2010 were searched. Meta-analysis and random effects approach were used to analyze data. Heterogeneity investigation of articles was done using I2 index. RESULTS:The total sample size was 6,090 workers with a mean of 225 samples per study. The upper and lower back had the highest prevalence rate of self-reported WRMSDs with 38.1% (95% CI: 29.9–46.4), and 50% (95% CI: 42.5–57.5), respectively. Also, knee had the highest prevalence among lower extremity disorders with 42.1% prevalence rate (95% CI:35.1–49.1). CONCLUSIONS:A high prevalence of WRMSDs in upper and lower limbs was reported in Iran. Trainings with regard to occupational ergonomics and industrial hygiene programs were recommended for minimizing the work-related risks of musculoskeletal disorders.

Petrochemical industries have a high rate of accidents Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) is a systematic method and thus is capable of analyzing the risks of systems from concept phase to system disposal, detecting the failures in design stage, and determining the control measures and corrective actions for failures to reduce their impacts The objectives of this research were to perform FMEA to identify risks in an Iranian petrochemical industry and determine the decrease of the risk priority number (RPN) after implementation of intervention programs This interventional study was performed at one petrochemical plant in Tehran, Iran in 2014 Relevant information about job categories and plant process was gathered using brainstorming techniques, fishbone diagram, and group decision making The data were collected through interviews, observation, and documents investigations and was recorded in FMEA worksheets The necessary corrective measures were performed on the basis of the results of initial FMEA Forty eight failures were identified in welding unit by application of FMEA to assess risks Welding processes especially working at height got the highest RPN Obtained RPN for working at height before performing the corrective actions was 120 and the score was reduced to 96 after performing corrective measures Calculated RPN for all processes was significantly reduced (p≤0001) by implementing the corrective actions Scores of RPN in all studied processes effectively decreased after performing corrective actions in a petrochemical industry FMEA method is a useful tool for identifying risk intervention priorities and effectiveness in a studied petrochemical industry

Determining Factors Affecting Fire Risk in a Hospital in Qazvin, Iran

Background and aims: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a qualitative method for determination of components' fails and study of its effects on machineries. In present study, kilns safety level of two gypsum factories examine. Methods: Production process of gypsum and especially kilns structure studied. FMEAmethod conducted by four steps including determination of analysis insight, information gathering, making of list of kilns' components and filling up the FMEAtables. On the other hand, the effects of fails on production, how to fail, failure rates, severity of fails, and controls of fails considered. Furthermore, the cost of fails and priority of control methods studied. Results: Crack and deformation of shoe plats had highest failure rate in two factories kilns. Some fails such as separation of bricks in kiln of second factory is less than the other one. Meanwhile, some fails including wrapping of kilns trunk, ring corrosion, and fracture of truster's shaft is only present in first kiln. Conclusion: Present study shows that technical features and design of kilns is most important factors in decreasing of failure rates and its cost.
