At present, optimization algorithms are used extensively. One particular type of such algorithms includes random-based heuristic population optimization algorithms, which may be created by modeling scientific phenomena, like, for example, physical processes. The present article proposes a novel optimization algorithm based on Hooke’s law, called the spring search algorithm (SSA), which aims to solve single-objective constrained optimization problems. In the SSA, search agents are weights joined through springs, which, as Hooke’s law states, possess a force that corresponds to its length. The mathematics behind the algorithm are presented in the text. In order to test its functionality, it is executed on 38 established benchmark test functions and weighed against eight other optimization algorithms: a genetic algorithm (GA), a gravitational search algorithm (GSA), a grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO), a grey wolf optimizer (GWO), a spotted hyena optimizer (SHO), as well as an emperor penguin optimizer (EPO). To test the SSA’s usability, it is employed on five engineering optimization problems. The SSA delivered better fitting results than the other algorithms in unimodal objective function, multimodal objective functions, CEC 2015, in addition to the optimization problems in engineering.

Population-based optimization algorithms are one of the most widely used and popular methods in solving optimization problems. In this paper, a new population-based optimization algorithm called the Teamwork Optimization Algorithm (TOA) is presented to solve various optimization problems. The main idea in designing the TOA is to simulate the teamwork behaviors of the members of a team in order to achieve their desired goal. The TOA is mathematically modeled for usability in solving optimization problems. The capability of the TOA in solving optimization problems is evaluated on a set of twenty-three standard objective functions. Additionally, the performance of the proposed TOA is compared with eight well-known optimization algorithms in providing a suitable quasi-optimal solution. The results of optimization of objective functions indicate the ability of the TOA to solve various optimization problems. Analysis and comparison of the simulation results of the optimization algorithms show that the proposed TOA is superior and far more competitive than the eight compared algorithms.

Teamwork Optimization Algorithm: A New Optimization Approach for Function Minimization/Maximization.

There are many optimization problems in different scientific disciplines that should be solved and optimized using appropriate techniques. Population-based optimization algorithms are one of the most widely used techniques to solve optimization problems. This paper is focused on presenting a new population-based optimization approach called Ring Toss Game-Based Optimization (RTGBO) algorithm. The main idea of RTGBO is to simulate the behaviour of players and rules of the ring toss game in the design of the proposed algorithm. The main feature of the proposed RTGBO algorithm is the lack of control parameters. Steps of implementing RTGBO are described in detail and the proposed algorithm is mathematically modeled. The ability of RTGBO to solve optimization problems is evaluated on a set of twenty-three standard objective functions. These functions are selected from three different groups including unimodal, high-dimensional multimodal, and fixed-dimensional multimodal. The performance of RTGBO is also compared with eight other well-known optimization algorithms including Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), Teaching Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO), Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO), Emperor Penguin Optimizer (EPO), Hide Objects Game Optimization (HOGO), and Shell Game Optimization (SGO). The results of optimization of objective functions of unimodal type indicate the high exploitation ability of RTGBO in solving optimization problems. On the other hand, the results of optimizing the multi-model type objective functions indicate the acceptable exploration ability of RTGBO. The results also confirm the superiority of the proposed RTGBO algorithm over mentioned optimization techniques.

Ring Toss Game-Based Optimization Algorithm for Solving Various Optimization Problems

Cloud computing provides computing and storage resources over the Internet to provide services for different industries. However, delay-sensitive applications like smart health and city applications now require computation over large amounts of data transferred to centralized cloud data centers which leads to drop in performance of such systems. The new paradigms of fog and edge computing provide new solutions by bringing resources closer to the user and provide low latency and energy efficiency compared to cloud services. It is important to find optimal placement of services and resources in the three-tier IoT to achieve improved cost and resource efficiency, higher QoS, and higher level of security and privacy. In this paper, we propose a cost-aware genetic-based (CAG) task scheduling algorithm for fog-cloud environments, which improves the cost efficiency in real-time applications with hard deadlines. iFogSim simulator, which is an extended version of CloudSim is used to deploy and test the performance of the proposed method in terms of latency, network congestion, and cost. The performance results show that the proposed algorithm provides better efficiency in terms of the cost and throughput compared to Round-Robin and Minimum Response Time algorithms.

Cost-Aware Task Scheduling in Fog-Cloud Environment

Scheduling in a multi-core system is a crucial and commonly known as NP-complete problem. In this paper, we have addressed the scheduling problem by a genetic algorithm. Our proposed work considers three contradicting objectives like minimization makespan, maximization of multi-core utilization, and maximization of speedup ratio. We have analyzed and evaluated the proposed work by extensive simulation runs based on synthetic as well as benchmark data set. The result shows considerable improvements over the \(\textit{GAHDCS}\), \(\textit{HGAAP}\), and \(\textit{PGA}\)
