Antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of seed extract from Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit

A facile, green synthesis of selenium doped zinc oxide nano-antibiotic (Se-ZnO-NAB) using the Curcuma longa extract is reported to combat the increased emergence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The developed Se-ZnO-NAB were characterized for their physicochemical parameters and extensively evaluated for their toxicological potential in an animal model. The prepared Se-ZnO-NABs were characterized via Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy to get functional insight into their surface chemistry, scanning electron microscopy revealing the polyhedral morphology with a size range of 36 ± 16 nm, having -28.9 ± 6.42 mV zeta potential, and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry confirming the amount of Se and Zn to be 14.43 and 71.70 mg L-1 respectively. Moreover, the antibacterial activity against MRSA showed significantly low minimum inhibitory concentration at 6.2 μg mL-1 when compared against antibiotics. Also, total protein content and reactive oxygen species production in MRSA, under the stressed environment of Se-ZnO-NAB, significantly (p < 0.05) decreased compared to the negative control. Moreover, the results of acute oral toxicity in rats showed moderate variations in blood biochemistry and histopathology of vital organs. The teratogenicity and fetal evaluations also revealed some signs of toxicity along with changes in biochemical parameters. The overall outcomes suggest that Se-ZnO-NAB can be of significant importance for combating multi-drug resistance but must be used with extreme caution, particularly in pregnancy, as moderate toxicity was observed at a toxic dose of 2000 mg kg-1.

University students are susceptible to psychological issues due to various academic and social stressors. Low life satisfaction among university students can bring about various negative outcomes that can impact their overall well-being and academic success. This study aims at examining the mediating role of psychological distress in the association between social support and life satisfaction. This cross-sectional study included 368 (F= 243, 66%; M= 125, 34%) university students from a public university in Yozgat, Turkey. The data were collected using the Brief Symptom Inventory, Satisfaction with Life Scale and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. The findings demonstrated that social support positively predicted life satisfaction and negatively predicted psychological distress. In addition, psychological distress negatively predicted life satisfaction. Moreover, the SEM analysis indicated that psychological distress played a partial mediating role in the association between social support and life satisfaction. These results highlight the importance of addressing social support and psychological distress in interventions aimed at increasing life satisfaction.

Abstract Background The life satisfaction of the elderly in nursing home is the focus of social concern.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of family function and sleep quality on life satisfaction among elderly individuals in nursing homes and examine the mediating effect of sleep quality between family function and life satisfaction. Methods A cross-sectional observational study was conducted .A total of 127 older adults who completed the Life Satisfaction Index A (LSI-A), the Family APGAR Index and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were recruited from four nursing homes in Chongqing, China. Results Life satisfaction was positively correlated with family function ( r =0.434, p &lt;0.01) and negatively correlated with PSQI ( r = -0.514, p &lt;0.01). PSQI was found to be negatively associated with family function ( r =-0.387, p &lt;0.01).Family function had a significant effect on PSQI (path a: β=-0.8459, 95% CI=-1.2029, -0.4889), and PSQI had a significant effect on life satisfaction (path b: β=-0.3916, 95% CI=-0.5407, -0.2425). The total effect (path c) and direct effect (path c') of family function on life satisfaction were significant (β=0.8931, 95% CI=0.5626, 1.2235 and β=0.56181, 95% CI=0.2358, 0.8879, respectively). The coefficient for the indirect effect of family function on life satisfaction through PSQI was statistically significant (β=0.3312, 95% CI=0.1628, 0.5588). PSQI played a partial mediating role between family function and life satisfaction, and PSQI mediated 32.58% of the total effect of family function on life satisfaction. Conclusions Family function and sleep quality were significant predictors of elderly people's life satisfaction in nursing homes. Sleep quality partially mediated the relationship between family function and life satisfaction.The interventions focused on promoting family function and improving sleep quality may be more helpful in improving elderly people's life satisfaction in nursing homes.

Sleep quality as a mediator between family function and life satisfaction among Chinese older adults in nursing home

N-benzoyl-N'-phenylthiourea (BFTU) compound is similar to amprenavir derivatives in the urea compound, chloroquine in the -NH group, and the benzene ring, which is a potent antiviral. This study evaluated the effect of lipophilic, electronic, and steric parameters of the BFTU compound on the antiviral activity of Covid-19. In silico docking using Autodock 4.2 to confirm the activity and pkCSM webserver to predict bioavailability and toxicity. The SARS-CoV-2 receptor was binding pocket with the Protein Data Bank (PDB) code 6LU7. Two and three dimensions of BFTU were generated using Marvin Sketch 20.4 and UCSF Chimera. Steric parameters affected the antiviral activity more than lipophilic and electronic parameters. A linear relationship was obtained on lipophilic, steric, and electronic parameters on activity, and a non-linear was on bioavailability and toxicity. The best activity was predicted for the N-benzoyl-N'-2,4-dichloro-phenylthiourea compound with a docking score of -9.12 kcal/mol. BFTU compounds are more potent as antiviral activity of Covid-19 compare to the reference drugs.

Life satisfaction refers to the assessment of one's own life in terms of self-perceived favourable qualities. It is an integral part of healthy and successful course of ageing. It is widely associated with the health status and social well-being. The present study attempted to determine the constructing factors of self-rated life satisfaction, such as socio-demographic, physical, social, and mental well-being of older adults. We analysed information from the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI-1), the initial phase conducted during 2017-18 for the population of older adults in India. We applied descriptive statistics for prevalence assessment and association was checked using chi-square test. Further, to determine the adjusted outcome of predictor covariates on the likelihood of an individual being satisfied from life estimated by applying hierarchical multiple logistic regression models. Several noteworthy affirmations on the relationship between the socio-demographic variables and health risk behaviours with life satisfaction were observed. The results were consistent with studies showing change in life satisfaction subject to the state of physical and mental health, presence of chronic diseases, friends and family relations, dependency, and events of trauma or abuse. While comparing respondents, we found varying degrees of life satisfaction by gender, education, marital status, expenditure and other socio-economic features. We also found that besides physical and mental health, social support and well-being play a pivotal role in achieving higher life satisfaction among older adults. Overall, this work contributes to the study of the subjective well-being of older adults in India based on self-reported levels of life satisfaction and further narrows the gap in knowledge about associated behaviour. Hence, with on-going ageing scenario, there is need for multi-sectorial policy-oriented approaches at individual, family, and community level, which helps to take care of older-adults' physical, social, and mental health for the betterment of healthy ageing.

An assessment of self-rated life satisfaction and its correlates with physical, mental and social health status among older adults in India

The current study was designed to study acute oral toxicity study of polyherbal formulation AV/KPC/10 (M/S Ayurvet Limited, Baddi, India) according to OECD guidelines. For new substances it is the recommended stepwise testing approach for developing scientifically sound data on the safety of the substance. Three wistar rats (2 females and 1 male) were used for the study. AV/KPC/10 in single oral dose (2000mg/kg) supplemented to all rats. The parameters like general appearance, behavior, body weight, mortality and necropsy were studied. No changes in general appearance and mortality was observed. AV/KPC/10 was found to be safe at dose of 2000mg/kg.

Abstract The identification of harmful activity and infiltration into systems and computer networks is a fundamental difficulty in this field due to the growing usage of computer networks. Nine fundamental steps make up the study's suggested approach for intrusion detection using fuzzy association rules and ant colony optimization. Every node in the graph that Ant Colony operates on gives seven parameters for the suggested approach. The Apriori method creates the initial fuzzy rules based on the values in the ant colony's most populous city in the graph. To increase the precision of intrusion detection in computer networks, the main rules are refined through a process known as conventional weighted aggregation. Using decision trees using NSL-KDD data, the efficiency of the optimized rules is assessed. Assessments show that the suggested approach has a high degree of intrusion detection accuracy and decrease in error risk when compared to other approaches.
