SOMMAIRE L'analyse experimentale des structures statistiques de fluctuation turbulente au fond des ressauts hydrauliques par-dessus des marches negatives, est exposee. L'attention est portee sur les positions extremes des phenomenes ainsi que sur les structures de correlation spatiale du champ anisotropique de fluctuation de pression, pour permettre la realisation d'un projet de revetement d'un bassin ammortisseur. L'analyse a ete realisee dans le cas d'un ressaut de type B et de type Wave, considerant deux differentes hauteurs de marche negative, pour nombres de Froude compris entre 6 et 9.5. En particulier, l'effet des differentes formes de marches negatives a ete analyse, en utilisant soit un abaissement brusque, soit une forme plus arrondie. Les resultats exposes peuvent etre tres utiles pour un projet de bassin ammortisseur par-dessus une marche negative, surtout pour ce qui concerne l'epaisseur des dalles en beton necessaires a la stabilite du revetement.

On the effects of a negative step in pressure fluctuations at the bottom of a hydraulic jump

The jump profile measurements on sloping floor, including the jumps with positive and negative step in an open rectangular channel were conducted. A set of regressed results of experimental data for predicting the length and depth of jumps on sloping floors are proposed. Analysis of sequent depth ratio and length characteristics revealed that the negative step has advantages over the positive with respect to stability and compactness of hydraulic jump. The results in nondimensional form may provide useful information for designing the stilling basin on sloping floor downstream of hydraulic structures.

Length and depth of hydraulic jump in sloping channels

The stilling basins are commonly used to dissipate the energy and protect the downstream floor from erosion. The aim of the present experimental work is to improve the roughened stilling basin using T-shape roughness instead of the regular cubic one and design this new shape. As a result of the present work the best intensity and the best roughness length are identified. Also, it is found that the T-shape roughness save materials and reduce the jump length compared to the cubic one. Sensitivity analysis was performed and it was noticed that the change in the length of jump is more sensitive to the change in roughness length than the change in intensity.

Studies on the hydraulic jump on an adverse slope are limited because of its unstable configuration. However, both this hydraulic phenomenon (termed the F jump) and its extension (which begins on a positive slope and ends on a negative slope, termed the B-F jump) are encountered in practice and hence require greater examination. Experiments were conducted in a stilling basin of an ogee standard weir. The main characteristics of the jump, namely the sequent depth, the roller length and the energy loss were analysed. Using the momentum equation and experimental results, this paper derives semi-empirical and empirical relations for predicting the sequent depth ratio. An empirical expression is also provided to predict the roller length. Analysis of the results reveals that, as expected, a basin's adverse slope has a significant effect on the sequent depth ratio, roller length and relative energy loss. Predictive mathematical models of hydraulic jump in rectangular sloping channels with a positive or negative step are presented. The models are verified with experimental data. A generalized equation for the modified Froude Number which accounts for channel slope and step height is suggested which is applicable to sloping channels with or without a step. A practical method for the determination of the sequent depth is presented and some important characteristics of the hydraulic jump in sloping channels with a step are also studied.
