Some members of the Bacillus velezensis (Bv) group (e.g., Bv FZB42T and AS3.43) were previously assigned grouping with B. subtilis and B. amyloliquefaciens, based on the fact that they shared a 99% DNA-DNA percentage phylogenetic similarity. However, hinging on current assessments of the pan-genomic reassignments, the differing phylogenomic characteristics of Bv from B. subtilis and B. amyloliquefaciens are now better understood. Within this re-grouping/reassignment, the various strains within the Bv share a close phylogenomic resemblance, and a number of these strains have received a lot of attention in recent years, due to their genomic robustness, and the growing evidence for their possible utilization in the agricultural industry for managing plant diseases. Only a few applications for their use medicinally/pharmaceutically, environmentally, and in the food industry have been reported, and this may be due to the fact that the majority of those strains investigated are those typically occurring in soil. Although the intracellular unique biomolecules of Bv strains have been revealed via in silico genome modeling and investigated using transcriptomics and proteomics, a further inquisition into the Bv metabolome using newer technologies such as metabolomics could elucidate additional applications of this economically relevant Bacillus species, beyond that of primarily the agricultural sector.

Bacillus velezensis: phylogeny, useful applications, and avenues for exploitation.

Cyclopeptides or cyclic peptides are polypeptides formed by ring closing of terminal amino acids. A large number of natural cyclopeptides have been reported to be highly effective against different cancer cells, some of which are renowned for their clinical uses. Compared to linear peptides, cyclopeptides have absolute advantages of structural rigidity, biochemical stability, binding affinity as well as membrane permeability, which contribute greatly to their anticancer potency. Therefore, the discovery and development of natural cyclopeptides as anticancer agents remains attractive to academic researchers and pharmaceutical companies. Herein, we provide an overview of anticancer cyclopeptides that were discovered in the past 20 years. The present review mainly focuses on the anticancer efficacies, mechanisms of action and chemical structures of cyclopeptides with natural origins. Additionally, studies of the structure–activity relationship, total synthetic strategies as well as bioactivities of natural cyclopeptides are also included in this article. In conclusion, due to their characteristic structural features, natural cyclopeptides have great potential to be developed as anticancer agents. Indeed, they can also serve as excellent scaffolds for the synthesis of novel derivatives for combating cancerous pathologies.

Candidate biocontrol agent Bacillus velezensis NWUMFkBS10.5 possesses unique genomic characteristics revealed by antiSMASH analysis and in vitro metabolomic elucidation. Besides its capability to produce antimicrobial lipopeptides, further in silico genome profiling predicted the presence of metabolic pathways for synthesizing antioxidants like lampranthin-2, miraxanthin V, and 2-decarboxybetanidin.

Bacillus velezensis is a gram-positive and spore-forming bacterium.It has potent antimicrobial properties that can be used to promote plant growth and as a pesticide by inhibiting pathogens.B. velezensis has the capability to generate a diverse range of enzymes that have potential applications in various fields, such as enzyme production, fermented food, degradation of pollutants, and bioenergy.In addition, B. velezensis is a promising probiotic.It possesses high bile-salt tolerance characteristics and has a high success rate of colonization in the intestinal mucosa.Besides, the strain can also regulate gut microbiota constitute by increasing the number of beneficial microorganisms and decreasing the number of pathogens.Furthermore, based on its special properties, including high-yield protease production and high salt-tolerance, B. velezensis shows potential for use in marine protein fermentation, opening up new avenues for the development of novel food products and bioactive peptides.In addition, B. velezensis can shorten the fermentation time as well as improve the nutritional value and flavor of fermented food.The safety of B. velezensis for food production was evaluated.This review provides valuable insights into the potential uses and benefits of B. velezensis, particularly in the context of fermented foods.
