Due to rapid development of process manufacturing, composite materials with porosity have attracted commercial attention in promoting engineering applications. For this regard, in this research wave propagation-thermal characteristics of a size-dependent graphene nanoplatelet-reinforced composite (GNPRC) porous cylindrical nanoshell in thermal environment are investigated. The effects of small scale are analyzed based on nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT). The governing equations of the laminated composite cylindrical nanoshell in thermal environment have been evolved using Hamilton’s principle and solved with the assistance of the analytical method. For the first time, wave propagation-thermal behavior of a GNPRC porous cylindrical nanoshell in thermal environment based on NSGT is examined. The results show that by increasing the thickness, the effect of porosity on the phase velocity decreases. Another important result is that by increasing the value of the radius, the difference between the minimum and maximum values of the phase velocity increases. Finally, influence of temperature change, wave number, angular velocity and different types of porosity distribution on phase velocity are investigated using the mentioned continuum mechanics theory. As a useful suggestion, for designing of a GPLRC nanostructure should be attention to the GNP weight function and radius, simultaneously.

On modeling of wave propagation in a thermally affected GNP-reinforced imperfect nanocomposite shell

This study presents the buckling response of functionally graded (FG) “sandwich plate” on a viscoelastic foundation and exposed to hygrothermal conditions. An accurate solution is developed using higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT), with only four unknowns being placed to reach the solution. The displacement fields first utilize an indeterminate integral accompanied by a sinusoidal shape function to simulate the transverse shear deformation theory. The foundation’s mathematical model followed the two-Pasternak coefficient model, with one more term being added to represent the damping effect. The sandwich plate is essentially composed of three layers. This study presented three different FG sandwich plate geometric analytical solutions regarding layer orders and composition. The equations of motion were generated according to Hamilton’s principle. Thereafter, the analytical solution was based on Navier’s principle to solve the buckling temperature of a simply supported FG sandwich plate seated on a viscoelastic foundation. This paper shows a parametric study of the effect of the damping coefficient along with the aspect ratio, moisture condition, power-law index, and temperature variation over the buckling temperature of the FG “sandwich plate” on the viscoelastic foundation.

Influence of the visco-Pasternak foundation parameters on the buckling behavior of a sandwich functional graded ceramic–metal plate in a hygrothermal environment

As a first attempt, Fourier series expansion (FSE), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and genetic algorithm (GA) methods are coupled for analysis of the static–dynamic performance and propagated waves in the magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) nanoplate. The FSE method is presented for solving the motion equations of the MEE nanoplate. For increasing the performance of genetic algorithms for solving the problem, the particle swarm optimization technique is added as an operator of the GA. Accuracy, convergence, and applicability of the proposed mixed approach are shown in the results section. Also, we prove that for obtaining the convergence results of the PSO and GA, we should consider more than 16 iterations. Finally, it is shown that if designers consider the presented algorithm in their model, the results of phase velocity of the nanosystem will be increased by 27%. A useful suggestion is that there is a region the same as a trapezium in which there are no effects from magnetic and electric potential of the MEE face sheet on the phase velocity of the smart nanoplate, and the region will be bigger by increasing the wavenumber.

Coupled particle swarm optimization method with genetic algorithm for the static–dynamic performance of the magneto-electro-elastic nanosystem

In this work, dynamic behavior of functionally graded (FG) porous nano-beams is studied based on nonlocal nth-order shear deformation theory which takes into the effect of shear deformation without considering shear correction factors. It has been observed that during the manufacture of "functionally graded materials" (FGMs), micro-voids and porosities can occur inside the material. Thus, in this work, the investigation of the dynamic analysis of FG beams taking into account the influence of these imperfections is established. Material characteristics of the FG beam are supposed to be vary continuously within thickness direction according to a "power-law scheme" which is modified to approximate material characteristics for considering the influence of porosities. A comparative study with the known results in the literature confirms the accuracy and efficiency of the current nonlocal nth-order shear deformation theory

Effects of hygro-thermo-mechanical conditions on the buckling of FG sandwich plates resting on elastic foundations

The aim of this work is to study the hygro-thermo-mechanical bending responses of simply supported FG plate resting on a Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation. The effect transverse shear strains is taken into account in which the zero transverse shear stress condition on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate is ensured without using any shear correction factors. The developed model contains only four unknowns variable which is reduced compared to other HSDTs models. The material properties of FG-plate are supposed to vary across the thickness of the plate according to power-law mixture. The differential governing equations are derived based on the virtual working principle. Numerical outcomes of bending analysis of FG plates under hygro-thermo-mechanical loads are performed and compared with those available in the literature. The effects of the temperature, moisture concentration, elastic foundation parameters, shear deformation, geometrical parameters, and power-law-index on the dimensionless deflections, axial and transverse shear stresses of the FG-plate are presented and discussed.

Hygro-thermo-mechanical bending response of FG platesresting on elastic foundations

Using a high order theory (HSDT), this work presents a study of thermal buckling of functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates subjected to various temperature rises across their thickness and resting on a two-parameter elastic foundation. The mechanical properties of the FG sandwich plates are supposed to change gradually through the thickness according to a power law (P-FGM). The intermediate layer is homogeneous and made of a purely ceramic material. The principle of virtual works is used to obtain stability equations, and their solutions are obtained based on Navier’s solution technique. The obtained results are compared with other studies in the literature. Then, a parametric study is conducted to investigate the influence of ge- ometric and mechanical characteristics such as the ratios of dimensions (width, length, and thickness), the material index ( k ), and the effect of the elastic foundation on the critical buckling temperature.
