Impact of a 5-minute massage session on the gastrocnemius contractile and passive mechanical properties in young adults - a randomized controlled trial

Frozen Shoulder (FS) is a common shoulder disorder characterized by a gradual increase in pain that is direct and limited. Movement of the glenohumeral joint ranges of motion. The pathophysiology of frozen shoulder is relatively clear as a pathological process. The study used a case report study conducted at the Praktik Mandiri Fisioterapi Magetan. The cause of Frozen Shoulder is still unknown, but there are other factors that trigger the occurrence of frozen shoulder including postoperative fractures resulting in limited movement of the shoulder, certain diseases, injuries to surrounding muscles. Physiotherapy plays a role in optimizing children's active movements using interventions in the form of infrared modalities, myofacial release, scapular mobilization, approximation, GTO release, contract relax stretching, and ice packs. After being treated for 3 times T1-T3 there was an increase and change in muscle strength by measuring muscle strength by MMT, pain by NRS, LGS by goniometer, and functional ability by SPADI Index.

Physiotherapy Management of Frozen Shoulder Dextra E.C Dextra Shoulder Osteoarthritis Case

Východisko: Crossminton ako jednostranne zaťažujúci raketový šport predstavuje pri nedostatočnej kompenzácii rizikový faktor vzniku svalovej nerovnováhy a poškodenia oporno-pohybového systému, hlavne horných končatín. Cieľom výskumu bolo rozšíriť poznatky o možnosti využitia tenziomyografie v diagnostike funkčných porúch horných končatín a preukázať účinnosť kompenzačných cvičení na ich zníženie u hráčok crossmintonu. 
Súbor a metódy: Objektom nášho výskumu boli 2 reprezentantky Slovenskej republiky v crossmintone, u ktorých sme aplikovali kompenzačné cvičenia zamerané na funkčné poruchy horných končatín po dobu 8 týždňov (3 x týždenne/30-45 minút). Na diagnostikovanie porúch funkcie horných končatín sme použili prístroj Tensiomyograf TMG-S2. 
Výsledky: Kompenzačné cvičenia zamerané na mobilizáciu, posilnenie a natiahnutie svalov viedli k zvýšeniu laterálnej symetrie a funkčného stavu svalstva horných končatín oboch hráčok. 
Závery: Tenziomyografiu možno využiť na pravidelný skríning pohybového systému hráčov raketových športov a predísť tak možnému vzniku zranení v oblasti horných končatín. Zároveň odporúčame aplikovať kompenzačné cvičenia v tréningovom procese hráčov crossmintonu ako efektívny spôsob prevencie či odstránenia funkčných porúch horných končatín

Skeletal muscle is the largest organ system in the human body and plays critical roles in athletic performance, mobility, and disease pathogenesis. Despite growing recognition of its importance by major health organizations, significant knowledge gaps remain regarding skeletal muscle health and its crosstalk with nearly every physiological system. Relevant public health challenges like pain, injury, obesity, and sarcopenia underscore the need to accurately assess skeletal muscle health and function. Feasible, non-invasive techniques that reliably evaluate metrics including muscle pain, dynamic structure, contractility, circulatory function, body composition, and emerging biomarkers are imperative to unraveling the complexities of skeletal muscle. Our concise review highlights innovative or overlooked approaches for comprehensively assessing skeletal muscle in vivo. We summarize recent advances in leveraging dynamic ultrasound imaging, muscle echogenicity, tensiomyography, blood flow restriction protocols, molecular techniques, body composition, and pain assessments to gain novel insight into muscle physiology from cellular to whole-body perspectives. Continued development of precise, non-invasive tools to investigate skeletal muscle are critical in informing impactful discoveries in exercise and rehabilitation science.

Innovations in the Assessment of Skeletal Muscle Health: A Glimpse into the Future.

ABSTRACT Tensiomyography (TMG) is a noninvasive tool used to assess contractile tissue properties during an isometric muscle contraction. Owing to portability and versatility for assessing muscle parameters, TMG may be of value to the strength and conditioning (S&C) specialist. The purpose of this systematic review was to investigate the reliability of TMG measurements. PubMed, PEDro, MEDLINE, and Cochrane databases were searched up to September 2021 by 2 authors, who independently examined all titles and abstracts to determine initial eligibility. Inclusion criteria included any study assessing the reliability of TMG parameters, published in English, published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, and included participants with no significant musculoskeletal conditions. Exclusion criteria included the following elements: TMG assessment process not clearly delineated, reliability of specific TMG parameters not clearly defined, and statistical methods for determining reliability not clearly defined. All studies underwent a quality assessment using the Modified Downs and Black checklist for assessing quality studies, and results were extracted from qualified articles. In total, 635 studies were identified, with 16 studies retained after full-text reviews. Twelve studies had poor quality, whereas 4 had fair quality. Noninvasive TMG has good to excellent absolute and interrater reliability for measuring the properties of skeletal muscles.

The Reliability of Tensiomyography for Assessment of Muscle Function in the Healthy Population: A Systematic Review

Background In volleyball, offensive (Hitters) and defensive players (Non-Hitters) perform differing actions that vary both kinematically and in terms of intensity. This may impose contrasting demands on the musculature involved in performing these actions. Previous research has identified differences in the muscle activation and contractile properties of the lower-body musculature between positions. Additionally, asymmetries between dominant and non-dominant limbs of the upper-body musculature has been observed in athletes performing overhead movements. Purpose The aim of this study was to use Tensiomyography (TMG) to examine the contractile properties of the shoulder musculature in elite volleyball players. Study design Cross-sectional study. Methods Thirty-one elite volleyball players participated in this study (Age: 23 ± 2 yrs, Body Mass: 76.5 ± 9.8 kg, Stature: 181 ± 9.3 cm), 26 of which displayed right-limb dominance and five displayed left-limb dominance. Contractile properties of the shoulder musculature including the anterior deltoid (AD), biceps brachii (BB), posterior deltoid (PD), and the upper trapezius (UT) were assessed bilaterally using TMG measures on one occasion prior to any training or exercise. The contractile measures provided by TMG included the maximal displacement (Dm), contraction time (Tc), delay time (Td), sustain time (Ts), and the relaxation time (Tr). Results No statistically significant differences were observed between positions or limbs, except that Hitters displayed a significantly lower Ts of the left AD compared to Non-hitters (p = 0.01, ES = 1.02), and significant differences between dominant and non-dominant sides in the Td of the UT in Non-hitters were present (p = 0.05, ES = 0.8). Conclusion These data suggest that irrespective of playing position and limb dominance, contractile properties of the shoulder musculature in elite volleyball players, as measured using TMG, display few significant differences.
