The use of geographic data has become a widespread concern, mainly within applications related to spatial planning and spatial decision-making. Therefore, changing environments require databases adaptable to changes that occur over time. Thus, supporting geographic information evolution is essential and extremely important within changing environments. The evolution is expressed in the geographic database by series of update operations that should maintain its consistency. This paper proposes an approach for updating geographic databases, based on update operators and algorithms of constraints integrity checking. Temporal versioning is used to keep the track of changes. Every version presents the state of the geographic database at a given time. Algorithms of constraints integrity checking allow maintaining the database consistency upon its update. To implement our approach and assist users in the evolution process, the GeoVersioning tool is developed and tested on a sample geographic database.

In this paper, we study the ramification problem in the setting of spatial databases. Standard solutions from the literature on reasoning about action are inadequate because they cannot capture integrity constraints in spatial data. In this paper, we provide a solution to the ramification problem based on situation calculus. We present a tool that connects the theoretical results to practical considerations, by producing the appropriate SQL commands in order to address the ramification problem in spatial databases.

a unique Spatial Access Method (SAM) in order solve complex spatial quires efficiently. In this case the spatial data structure takes a prominent place in the SAM. Inadequate data structure leads forming poor algorithmic choices and forging deficient understandings of algorithm behavior on the spatial database. A key step in developing a better semantic spatial object data structure is to quantify the performance effects of semantic and outlier detections that are not reflected in the previous tree structures (R-Tree and its variants). This paper explores a novel SSR O-Tree on SAM to the Topo-Semantic approach. The paper shows how to identify and handle the semantic spatial objects with outlier objects during page overflow/underflow, using gain/loss metrics. We introduce a new SSR O-Tree algorithm which facilitates the achievement of better performance in practice over algorithms that are superior in the R *-Tree and R O-Tree by considering selection queries.

Geographical Information Systems are used in solving many regional development related problems, around the world. Starting from some national programs to famous international ones, such as INSPIRE program, each such initiative uses geospatial data as well in the process of building regional development strategies. This paper presents the main technical components of a geographical information system, meaning the spatial database, the web mapping server and the APIs used to embed the maps into web applications. The development steps for a pre-alpha version of a web GIS application dedicated to the regional development in Romania are also shown. The essential role of geospatial information in pressing issues such as: land cover, access to water, food production and distribution, biodiversity, is the main topic in many conferences in this field such as AGIT symposium "Geoinformation for Development (gi4dev)" held in 2006 in Austria.This paper discusses the use of GIS tools in regional development and details the GIS architecture by analyzing its main software components: spatial databases, web mapping servers and the application programming interfaces (APIs) used to embed maps in web applications. In the last chapter we propose system architecture for building an online GIS for regional development in Romania. The application will offer the possibility of maintaining both spatial data and economical/statistical data regarding different variables of interest in different counties and to visualize statistical thematic maps which could be the basis of the decision making process.2 Regional Development and GISRegional development's aim is to offer assistance and to modernize regions which are less economically developed than others, at international or domestic level. Development of Spatial Database for Regional Development in Romania

Spatial relations and Integrity constraints are key components of topographical databases which have been used for the development of efficient models. Efforts have been made on formal definitions of spatial relations with the 4-intersection model (4IM) and 9 - intersection model (9IM), which are significant components in designing any model in topographical databases. Earlier definitions were also used for this model with required better modifications. This paper introduces new integrity constraint rules and semantic constraint rules which are used to design the model. The main contribution of this paper is to implement Conceptual frameworks for constraint rules for efficient and effective topographical database management.

MSRIC: a model for spatial relations and integrity constraints in topographic databases

An important activity in the design or enhancement of a particular database application consists of identifying the integrity constraints that must hold on the database, which are used to detect and evaluate inconsistencies to buildup an efficient spatial database. It is also possible to improve data quality by imposing constraints upon data entering the database. The main contribution of this paper is a survey of existing approaches to deal with any inconsistency issue in spatial databases that emphasize the current state of the art and that outline research issues in the context of consistency tolerance to the better spatial database applications.

Review of data consistency and integrity constraints in spatial databases

Due to increasing use of land surveying practices along with technology advancements, a necessity for appropriate tools for task accomplishment has been occurred. A computer application program has been developed to make land surveying applications into a single user-friendly desktop operation to reduce the complexity of the surveying work. In the developed software (SCAD2006) the processing in outline and by the nature of snapshot provides a static view of activities. SCAD2006 acts as a bridge between raw data and digital maps because it provides required tools for digitalization. It benefits professional land surveyors in developing countries for efficient completion of mapping tasks. The pilot study revealed that 52% of Sri Lankan land surveyors are currently using this software, which indicates the practicability of it within a short period of time.
