The clinical, radiologic and pathologic features of a case of parasagittal solitary fibrous tumor of the meninges are reported. The patient was a 44 year-old male who presented with a complex partial seizure and a history of headaches and confusion. Radiological studies showed a large extra-axial dural-based mass in the right parietal region, predominantly isointense with gray matter and hypointense with respect to white matter on T1-weighted images, and hypointense with respect to gray matter on T2-weighted images. At surgery, the mass was very vascular, quite firm and very adherent to the convexity. Histologically the tumor was composed of spindle-shaped cells growing in fascicles within a collagenous matrix. Solitary fibrous tumor of the meninges is a newly described entity, which should be kept in mind in the clinical and radiological differential diagnosis of extra-axial brain tumors.

Primary fibrosarcoma of the central nervous system (CNS) is an extremely rare tumor. To the best of our knowledge, only 40 cases have been reported in the literature. We document such a case in a 9-year-old child who presented with a short history of headache and vomiting. A mass was completely removed and histologic examination revealed a primary fibrosarcoma with features resembling solitary fibrous tumor, meningioma, and malignant fibrous histiocytoma. In addition, the tumor was associated with meningioangiomatosis. A primary CNS fibrosarcoma with these features is most unusual and rendered a precise diagnosis difficult.

Primary intracranial fibrosarcoma with intratumoral hemorrhage: neuropathological diagnosis with review of the literature.

Primary meningeal fibrosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor of the central nervous system. About seventeen cases have been reported in the literature since 1980. We present the case of a patient whose initial neuroradiological manifestation of primary meningeal fibrosarcoma was an en plaque meningioma. Fifteen months later, he developed a dramatic clinical deterioration and coma. CT scan revealed a large frontal lesion. The mass was completely removed and histological examination was characteristic of meningeal fibrosarcoma.

Primary meningeal fibrosarcoma: a particular neuroradiological presentation.

Radiation-induced midbrain fibrosarcoma is a rare, highly aggressive tumor, which is associated with poor prognosis. We present the case of a 48-year old man with brainstem fibrosarcoma 20 years following radiation therapy received for a pituitary tumor. We discuss this case in the context of the diagnostic criteria for these tumors, and previous reports of secondary and primary sarcomas of the central nervous system.

Meningeal Fibrosarcoma (MF) accounts only for 0.5% of the brain tumors. Since the clinical manifestations and radiologic findings are non-specific, the diagnosis can only be achieved by pathological examination of surgically removed specimens. MF are tumors that behave locally very aggressively and respond poorly to treatment, with reported median survivals ranging from 6 to 15 months. We report a new case of MF describing the peculiar onset as a slow growing mass in scalp with bone destruction and without neurological clinical findings.
