The whitespotted grouper Epinephelus coeruleopunctatus is one of the commercial marine fish species occurred in the coastal waters of Padang city, Indonesia. The population of the whitespotted grouper has been declining over last decade. Unfortunately, there was a lack of information on the biology of this species was available. Hence, the objectives of the study were to examine the length-weight relationships and condition factors of the whitespotted grouper harvested from coastal waters of Padang city, Indonesia. The fish sampling was carried out from April to October 2013. The fish samples were weighed for total body weight and measured for total length. The result showed that the male grouper has W = (3.1538  10 –5 ) L 2.8613 ,  while the female has W= (3.8617  10 –5 )  L 2.8384 . Both sexes male and female displayed the negative growth pattern.

Parasites are an important but neglected component of ecosystems that can be used as indicators of host biology and ecology. In the present study, the metazoan parasite assemblage of Ruvettus pretiosus, an understudied but widely distributed predatory gempylid, caught off South Africa was surveyed. A total of seven parasite taxa, including four new infection records (Bolbosoma capitatum, Rhadinorhynchus sp., Hepatoxylon trichiuri and Anisakis sp.), two new locality records (B. capitatum and Rhipidocotyle sp.) as well as the ectoparasitic copepod Sagum foliaceus and the cestode Tentacularia coryphaenae were recovered from the eight specimens examined.

First account of the metazoan parasite fauna of oilfish Ruvettus pretiosus Cocco, 1829 (Perciformes: Gempylidae) in South African waters

This study presents the diet composition of 43 of some of the most abundant fish species from the North Aegean Sea, Greece. According to the diet analysis and fractional trophic level previously reported in the literature, 20 of the studied species were omnivores with a preference for animals and the other half were carnivores (15 with preference for fish and Cephalopoda, and seven with preference for fish and Decapoda), whereas Parablennius gattorugine was the only recorded omnivore with a preference for plant material. Finally, according to the results of Schoener’s index, diet overlap between species was recorded in a small number of cases (33 out of the 903 pairs examined). Yet, competition among diet-overlapping species may be minimised by either morphological differentiations and/or habitat segregation.

Balık örnekleri Mayıs 2015 ve Haziran 2016 tarihleri arasında İskenderun Körfezi’nden (Hatay-Türkiye) 80-100 m derinliklerden ticari trol avcılığı ile yakalandı. Toplam 150 tiryaki balığı (67 dişi ve 83 erkek) toplandı. Ortalama boylar tüm örneklerde 17.21cm, dişi örneklerde 18.67cm ve erkek örneklerde 16.04cm; ortalama ağırlıklar tüm populasyon için 89.61g, dişilerde 115.59g ve erkeklerde 66.78g olarak tespit edildi. Dişi ve erkek balıklar arasında ortalama boy ve ağırlık farklılıkları istatistiksel açıdan önemsiz bulundu (P>0.05). Toplam boy-otolit boyu, toplam boy-otolit genişliği ve toplam boy-otolit ağırlığı arasındaki ilişkiler sırasıyla y=0.4173x+0.2048 (R=0.8617), y=0.1923x+0.6715 (R=0.7186) ve y=0.0102x+0.1045 (R=0.7096) olarak bulundu. Balık ağırlığı-otolit boyu ve balık ağırlığı-otolit genişliği ve balık ağırlığı-otolit ağırlığı arasındaki ilişkiler sırasıyla y=0.0211x+5.6323 (R=0.8617), y=0.0098x+3.1177 (R=0.6139) ve y=0.0005x+0.0237 (R=0.6577) olarak bulundu. Regresyon analizi sonuçlarına göre, balık boy ve ağılıkları ile otolit boyutları arasında orta ve kuvvetli pozitif ilişkiler saptandı. OTOLITH DIMENSIONS-FISH SIZE RELATIONSHIPS OF ATLANTIC STARGAZER (Uranoscopus scaber L., 1758) CAPTURED FROM NORTHEASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

In this study, it was aimed to determine the length and weight relationships (LWRs) and Fulton’s condition factors (K) for three commercial fish species in Iskenderun bay. For this purpose, tub gurnard (Chelidonichthys lucerne, Linnaeus, 1758), sand soles (Pegusa lascaris, Risso, 1810), and gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata, Linnaeus, 1758) were collected by a single artisanal fisherman during September- December months in 2016 by means of monofilament gill nets mesh size:28 mm) used at deepths 10-20 m in Iskenderun bay. Totally 82 fish samples captured and total lengths and weights of they were measured to the nearest 0.01 cm and to 0.01 g. Minimum-maximum length and weight of caught fishes were determined as 14.0-24.5cm and 31.2-126.6g for C. lucerne, 18.5-25.55cm and 37.7-125.5g for P. lascaris, 14.5-26.6cm and 55.8-180.0g for S. aurata. Total length-weight relationships of three fish species were found as W=0.0837*TL2.28 for C. lucerne, W=0.0018*TL3.45 for P. lascaris, and W=0.0667*TL3.30 for S. aurata. Fulton’s condition factors were detected as 1.05±0.04 for C. lucerne, 0.72±0.01 for P. lascaris, and 2.00±0.10 for for S. aurata. Result of this study provides a contribution to parameterers of LWRs and K indices of economically important fish in this area and the current study will be useful in order to compare the stocks of similar species in different temporarily and spatially.
