The present work carries out a descriptive analysis of the main steganography techniques used in specific digital media such as audio and image files. For this purpose, a literary review of the domains, methods, and techniques as part of this set was carried out and their functioning, qualities, and weaknesses are identified. Hence, it is concluded that there is a wide relationship between audio and image steganography techniques in their implementation form. Nevertheless, it is determined that LSB is one of the weakest techniques, but the safest and the most robust technique within each type of the presented medium.

Steganography analysis techniques applied to audio and image files

Steganography is the hiding secret message in the various media and very popular in today network transmission and information security. Although many of the secure transmission have been done in digital image, a little work has been done in audio mp3 file. Hiding data in mp3 file is the most researchable area and preferable way to carry secret data. Therefore this paper proposes a way of hiding secret message into mp3 file by using LSB, Least Significant Bit technique and Echo Hiding. LSB is the most popular steganographic technique but there is a weak point in including noise, compression technique and extraction process. To compensate that weakness, the combination of Echo Hiding in time spectrum is proposed. The integration is used in serial. To test the effectives of the methods, various types of genres is prepared in different compression rates. The experimental results are carried out for different size of the secret message files.

Secure Data Transmission in MP3 file using LSB and Echo Hiding

The objective of the work presented here was an implementation of lossless steganographic method on audio files in the frequency domain. The main contribution here was to use of companding technique in audio files to preserve the secret data reversibility with less influence on the signal. This was achieved by making the greatest changes in the less significant coefficients. In this work, secret bits were hidden in the detail components of the first level of integer wavelet transform using companding technique. Location map was created, to prevent samples’ overflow/underflow resulting from companding technique, and losslessly compressed using a proposed compression method. Subsequently, it was embedded in the approximation components of that level using LSB replacement. Prior to embedding the compressed location map, the proposed method used Fredkin gate to jumble both of the original LSBs and the compressed location map under controlling of a long secret key. This process was used to increase the security and preserve the reversibility. Results showed that the proposed method kept good quality of the stego-audio (SNR was above 30 dB), as well as restored the cover audio without any loss. In addition, the proposed compression method for location map achieved acceptable compression ratio. Furthermore, the security level was increased by use of Fredkin gate. In conclusion, companding technique can be used to achieve lossless data hiding with negligible effect on the audio quality when it is applied on the less significant coefficients.

Lossless Audio Steganographic Method Using Companding Technique

Rapid increase in data transmission over internet results in emphasis on information security. Audio steganography is used for secure transmission of secret data with audio signal as the carrier. In the proposed method, cover audio file is transformed from space domain to wavelet domain using lifting scheme, leading to secure data hiding. Text message is encrypted using dynamic encryption algorithm. Cipher text is then hidden in wavelet coefficients of cover audio signal. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Squared Pearson Correlation Coefficient (SPCC)values are computed to judge the quality of the stego audio signal. Results show that stego audio signal is perceptually indistinguishable from the cover audio signal. Stego audio signal is robust even in presence of external noise. Proposed method provides secure and least error data extraction.
