Natriuretic peptide-based screening and collaborative care for heart failure: the STOP-HF randomized trial.
Mark Ledwidge,Mark Ledwidge,Joe Gallagher,Joe Gallagher,C. Conlon,Elaine Tallon,Elaine Tallon,Eoin O'Connell,Eoin O'Connell,Ian Dawkins,Chris J Watson,Chris J Watson,Rory O'Hanlon,Rory O'Hanlon,Margaret Bermingham,Margaret Bermingham,A Patle,Mallikarjuna Badabhagni,Gillian Murtagh,Victor Voon,Victor Voon,Leslie Tilson,Michael J. Barry,Laura McDonald,Laura McDonald,B. Maurer,Kenneth McDonald +26 more
TL;DR: Among patients at risk of heart failure, BNP-based screening and collaborative care reduced the combined rates of LV systolic dysfunction, diastolic dysfunction and heart failure.

Diastolic Heart Failure Evidence of Increased Myocardial Collagen Turnover Linked to Diastolic Dysfunction
Ramon Martos,John A. Baugh,Mark Ledwidge,C. O'Loughlin,C. Conlon,A Patle,Seamas C. Donnelly,Kenneth McDonald +7 more
TL;DR: Serological evidence of an active fibrotic process in DHF is demonstrated, which is more marked in more severe phases of diastolic dysfunction, as well as new avenues for diagnostic and therapeutic intervention.

Natural history of markers of collagen turnover in patients with early diastolic dysfunction and impact of eplerenone.
George Mak,Mark Ledwidge,Chris J Watson,Dermot Phelan,Ian Dawkins,Niamh F. Murphy,A Patle,John A. Baugh,Kenneth McDonald +8 more
TL;DR: Despite high background utilization of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone modulators, eplerenone therapy prevents a progressive increase in pro-collagen type-III aminoterminal peptide and may have a role in management of this disease.

Progression of left atrial volume index in a population at risk for heart failure: A substudy of the STOP-HF (St Vincent's Screening to Prevent Heart Failure) trial
Patrick Collier,Chris J Watson,Deidre F. Waterhouse,Ian Dawkins,A Patle,Stephen Horgan,C. Conlon,Rory O'Hanlon,John A. Baugh,Mark Ledwidge,Kenneth McDonald +10 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to investigate clinical characteristics and serological biomarkers in a cohort with risk factors for HF and evidence of serial atrial dilatation.

Importance of risk factor management in diabetic patients and reduction in Stage B heart failure
G Murtagh,J O Connell,E O Connell,Elaine Tallon,Chris J Watson,Joe Gallagher,John A. Baugh,A Patle,L O Connell,J Griffin,Rory O'Hanlon,Victor Voon,Mark Ledwidge,D O Shea,Kenneth McDonald +14 more
TL;DR: In this cohort of patients with established risk factors for Stage B heart failure superior risk factor management among the diabetic population appears to dilute the independent diabetic insult to left ventricular structure and function, underlining the importance and benefit of effective risk factor control in this population on cardiovascular outcomes.
