At the beginning of the 21st century, a significant technological change took place in geodetic astronomy. In Zurich and Hannover, digital zenith camera systems were developed based on digital imaging sensors (charge-coupled device) that strongly improved the degree of automation, efficiency, and accuracy of the observation of the direction of the plumb line and its vertical deflection. This paper describes the instrumental design of the new digital zenith camera systems and gives an overview of the data processing with focus on the models used for astrometric data reduction and tilt correction. Results of frequently repeated observations of vertical deflections and comparison measurements show an accuracy of vertical deflection measurements of better than 0.1 arc sec. Application examples for vertical deflection data from zenith camera observations, such as the high-precision local gravity field determination in engineering projects and gravity field validation are summarized.

We investigate the prospects for producing new, light, hidden states at a future $e^+ e^-$ collider in a Higgsed dark $U(1)_D$ model, which we call the Double Dark Portal model. The simultaneous presence of both vector and scalar portal couplings immediately modifies the Standard Model Higgsstrahlung channel, $e^+ e^- \to Zh$, at leading order in each coupling. In addition, each portal leads to complementary signals which can be probed at direct and indirect detection dark matter experiments. After accounting for current constraints from LEP and LHC, we demonstrate that a future $e^+ e^-$ Higgs factory will have unique and leading sensitivity to the two portal couplings by studying a host of new production, decay, and radiative return processes. Besides the possibility of exotic Higgs decays, we highlight the importance of direct dark vector and dark scalar production at $e^+ e^-$ machines, whose invisible decays can be tagged from the recoil mass method.

A Tale of Two Portals: Testing Light, Hidden New Physics at Future $e^+ e^-$ Colliders

We study two-Higgs models for large tan β and relatively large second Higgs mass. In this limit the second heavy Higgs should have small vev and therefore couples only weakly to two gauge bosons. Furthermore, the couplings to down-type quarks can be significantly modified (so long as the second Higgs is not overly heavy). Both these facts have significant implications for search strategies at the LHC and ILC. We show how an effective theory and explicit fundamental two-Higgs model approach are related and consider the additional constraints in the presence of supersymmetry or Z2 flavor symmetries. We argue that the best tests of the two-Higgs doublet potential are likely to be measurements of the light Higgs branching fractions. We show how higher dimension operators that have recently been suggested to raise the light Higgs mass are probably best measured and distinguished in this way.

Two-Higgs Models for Large $\tan \beta$ and Heavy Second Higgs

We present a new method for the numerical evaluation of loop integrals which is based on the Feynman Tree Theorem. The loop integrals are replaced by phase-space integration over fictitious extra on-shell particles. This integration can be performed alongside with the Monte-Carlo integration of ordinary phase space, avoiding the time-consuming nesting of loop evaluation inside the integrand, and directly leading to NLO event generation. We systematically construct subtractions, necessary to cancel both ultraviolet divergences and the extra threshold singularities in phase-space which arise in the numerical evaluation. Infrared singularities can be dealt with by standard methods. As a proof of concept, we apply the method to NLO Bhabha scattering in QED and construct the corresponding NLO Monte Carlo event generator.
