A multiple sensing technology-based occupancy sensor. Ultrasonic and infrared sensors are used to produce first and second occupancy estimator signals that are combined using a fusion based detection algorithm to produce a combined estimator signal. The combined estimator is then used to switch electrical loads when the combined estimator signal is above a predetermined threshold. The result is an occupancy sensor that has a very high probability of occupancy detection and a low probability of false tripping. In addition, infrared sensitivity is adjusted based upon an estimation of the background noise in order to minimize the occurrence of false tripping.

The Module is comprised of: a reinforced plastic enclosure molded to the contour of the cellular phone; an internal printed circuit board containing a micro-processor unit, a memory chip, an I/R interface chip, I/R diodes; a credit card reader head that has been modified to reduce the size of the reader head thickness; a barcode reader; an electronic fingerprint reader interface and an encryption module chip.

A method and system provide a multi-sensor data fusion system capable of adaptively weighting the contributions from each one of a plurality of sensors using a plurality of data fusion methods. During a predetermined tracking period, the system receives data from each individual sensor and each data fusion method is performed to determine a plurality of reliability functions for the system based on combining each sensor reliability function which are individually weighted based on the S/N (signal-to-noise) ratio for the received data from each sensor, and a comparison of predetermined sensor operation characteristics for each sensor and a best performing (most reliable) sensor. The system may dynamically select to use one or a predetermined combination of the generated reliability functions as the current (best) reliability function which provides a confidence level for the multi-sensor system relating to the correct classification (recognition) of targets and decoys.

The motion detection system (50) includes a CW radar system (1), a sensor (60), and a processor (63). When the processor (63) receives a signal from the sensor (60), the processor (63) turns on the electrical power to the CW radar system (1) via the control line (65). If the processor (63) indicates that both the sensor (60) and the CW radar system (1) have detected a moving object, then an alarm signal (70) is produced, which may be sent to a remote station (75).

Motion within a large specified volume is detected by multiple ultrasonic transducer assemblies with a redundant microwave antenna to reduce false alarms. Each of the ultrasonic transducer assemblies contains a plurality of highly directive transmitting radiating elements and/or a plurality of highly directive receiving elements. Combining networks interconnect the various radiating elements in parallel to a frequency source. The microwave transducer includes a transmit/receive antenna coupled to a microstrip oscillator through a microstrip balanced mixer. Signals from the ultrasonic transducers are processed by means of time integration to provide an alarm signal. Similarly, signals received at the microwave antenna are processed by means of time integration to provide an alarm signal. Alarm signals from both the ultrasonic subsystem and the microwave subsystem are combined in logic that responds to generate a system alarm only upon the simultaneous existence of alarm signals from both sources. Also coupled to the ultrasonic subsystem and the microwave subsystem is an automatic self-testing and tamper determining system. When either transducer source indicates a fault condition, an alarm signal is generated by combining logic networks.
