Chromium volatility of coated and uncoated steel interconnects for SOFCs
Clare E. Collins,Jacob Lucas,T.L. Buchanan,M. Kopczyk,A. Kayani,Paul Gannon,Max Deibert,Richard J.H. Smith,D.-S. Choi,Vladimir Gorokhovsky +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, a relatively quick, quantitative procedure using Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS) was developed to obtain measurements of the Cr vaporization rates, which can serve not only to slow oxidation rates but also as diffusion barriers for the Cr-derived species from the steel, slowing the degradation process.

Deposition and Evaluation of Protective PVD Coatings on Ferritic Stainless Steel SOFC Interconnects
Vladimir Gorokhovsky,Paul Gannon,Max Deibert,Richard J.H. Smith,A. Kayani,M. Kopczyk,D. VanVorous,Zhenguo Yang,Jeffry W. Stevenson,S. Visco,Craig P. Jacobson,Hideto Kurokawa,S. W. Sofie +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, large area filtered arc deposition and hybrid filter arc deposition-assisted electron beam physical vapor deposition technologies were used to deposit two-segment coatings with Cr-Co-Al-O-N-based bottom segment and MnCo-O top segment.

Enabling inexpensive metallic alloys as SOFC interconnects: An investigation into hybrid coating technologies to deposit nanocomposite functional coatings on ferritic stainless steels
Paul Gannon,Vladimir Gorokhovsky,Max Deibert,Richard J.H. Smith,A. Kayani,Preston White,Stephen W. Sofie,Zhenguo Yang,David E. McCready,S. Visco,Craig P. Jacobson,Hideto Kurokawa +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, large area filtered arc deposition (LAFAD) and hybrid filtered arc-assisted electron beam physical vapor deposition (FA-EBPVD) technologies were used to deposit two-segment coatings with Cr-Al-Y-O nanocomposite bottom segments and Mn-Co-O spinel-based top segments.

Tribological performance of hybrid filtered arc-magnetron coatings Part I: Coating deposition process and basic coating properties characterization
Vladimir Gorokhovsky,C. Bowman,Paul Gannon,D. VanVorous,Andrey A. Voevodin,A. Rutkowski,Christopher Muratore,Richard J.H. Smith,A. Kayani,David S. Gelles,Vaithiyalingam Shutthanandan,B. G. Trusov +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, a multilayer and nanostructured TiCrCN/TiCr +TiBC composite cermet coatings were deposited by the hybrid filtered arc-magnetron process.

Oxidation studies of CrAlON nanolayered coatings on steel plates
A. Kayani,Richard J.H. Smith,S. Teintze,M. Kopczyk,Paul Gannon,Max Deibert,Vladimir Gorokhovsky,Vaithiyalingam Shutthanandan +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the performance of steel plates with nanolayered coatings consisting of [CrON/AlON]n was investigated, and the composition, structure and surface morphology of the coated plates were characterized using RBS, nuclear reaction analysis, and AFM techniques.
