Tea and coffee are the most commonly consumed types of drinks, identified with multiple health benefits. However, the association between tea and coffee intake and postsurgical hypothyroidism and hypoparathyroidism (PHypoTP) is still unclear. Therefore, the objective of this study is to explore the effect of tea and coffee intake on the risk of PHypoTP.Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR).The primary approach for MR estimates was the inverse-variance-weighted method. MR-Egger, MR Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier (PRESSO), weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode were used to detect pleiotropy and heterogeneity.We found that green tea intake was causally associated with the decreased risk of PHypoTP (β = -0.019; 95% confidence interval: -0.038 to -0.001; P = .029). However, there was no significant association between coffee intake and the risk of PHypoTP. No heterogeneity or pleiotropy in these results was detected.Our findings provide the genetic evidence supporting that green tea intake was a protective factor against PHypoTP. Accordingly, we may suggest that patients after thyroidectomy to add green tea into their habitual diet during nursing education. 

Green Tea Intake: A Protective Factor Against Postsurgical Hypothyroidism and Hypoparathyroidism.

The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of cytoflavin inclusion in complex treatment of patients with hypoparathyroidism occurring after thyroid surgery. To do this, an analysis of treatment of 54 patients who received surgical treatment for thyroid diseases of various etiologies. Depending on the scheme of post-operative medical therapy, the patients were divided into 2 groups: group I patients (27 persons) received basic therapy according to regulatory documents, II of the group (27 patients) in addition cytoflavin intravenous drip of 10 ml to 200 ml 0.9% NaCl for 7 days. In addition to standard clinical and laboratory examination, all patients were studied and the level of active ionized Ca2+ and PTH, oxidation products of the modified protein, lipid peroxidation and antioksidazation system dynamics - 1, 3 and 7 days after surgery. It was revealed that in the first days after the surgical treatment of patients significantly reduced the levels of ionized Ca2+ and PTH that may be regarded as signs of postoperative hypoparathyroidism, as well as the activation of the system of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant system depression. Turning cytoflavin in drug regimens improved the efficiency of the treatment, which was manifested in arresting to 7 days of monitoring signs of hypoparathyroidism, improve tissue oxygenation and restoring the balance by reducing the activity of the system of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant system strengthening.

Abstract The article, based on archive materials and press publications, as well as major academic studies, contains information on attempts by the Communists in Poland to take control over the Polish Olympic Committee (POC) in the Stalinist period. After the Olympic games in London in 1948 they ‘closed’ the POC’s activity in order to nominate a ‘new’ POC in June 1950 created by people connected with the dominant Communist Polish United Workers’ Party (PUWP). The POC even included two Soviet officers of Polish origin, while the people’s power forced the previous president of the organization to resign. However, throughout the whole Stalinist period in Poland the Communists did not manage to deprive Professor Jerzy Loth of his membership in the International Olympic Committee, whom they were planning to replace with their trusted people. For that reason, they sent to Lausanne the names of their candidates at least four times. They did so even when the POC was formally ‘closed’. In spite of that, until 1956, the people’s power did not manage to implement the plan of taking full control over the POC. This fact is largely thanks to the management of the POC and Professor Loth.
