Two-wave mixing in chiral dye-doped nematic liquid crystals.
TL;DR: The photo-induced spatial modulation of the chiral structure, together with the diffusion anisotropy of the mixture, determine a relatively fast response time, a spatial resolution of 1 μm, and a maximum gain for circularly polarized interacting beams.

Dynamic Grating Recording by a Light-Induced Modification of the Order Parameter in Dye-Doped Chiral Nematic Liquid Crystals
TL;DR: In this paper, a photo-induced modification of the order parameter of a liquid crystal within the range of optical intensities is studied. And the authors show that the photoinduced modulation can be extended to the recording of arbitrary phase profiles as requested in several applications for the manipulation of a lightbeam.
