Artificial neural network modeling in competitive adsorption of phenol and resorcinol from water environment using some carbonaceous adsorbents.

The adsorption of ethylbenzene from aqueous solution using waste tyre rubber granules (WTRG) was investigated in a batch system. The effect of various factors such as contact time, initial concentration of eth ylbenzene, amount of adsorbent, size of adsorbent particles, and temperature of solution on the adsorption capacity of WTRG was determined. The equilibrium contact time was obtained to be 70 minutes indicating fast adsorption. The adsorption of ethylbenzen e on WTRG was observed to increase from 8.4 to 57.85 mg/g with increase in initial ethylbenzene concentration from 250 to 850 mg/L. Adsorption of Ethylbenzene from Aqueous Solution Using Recycled Rubber from Scrap Tyre

The potential use of waste tyre rubber granules (WTRG) for the batch adsorption of naphthalene from aqueous solutions was investigated. The effect of various operational variables such as contact time, initial naphthalene concentration, adsorbent dose, size of adsorbent particles, and temperature of solution on the adsorption capacity of WTRG was evaluated. The adsorption of naphthalene by WTRG was a fast kinetic process with an equilibrium contact time of 60 min. A low temperature (5°C), small adsorbent particle size (0.212 mm) and higher adsorbent dosage favored the adsorption process. Results of isotherm studies revealed that adsorption of naphthalene was best described by the Langmuir isotherm equation (R 2 =0.997) while the kinetics of the process was best described by the Lagergren pseudofirst order kinetic equation (R 2 =0.998). This study has demonstrated the suitability of WTRG for the removal of naphthalene from aqueous solution.

Waste tyre rubber granules (WTRG) were used to adsorb toluene from aqueous solutions. Their sorption capacities were determined by testing the effect of variables such as contact time, initial concentration of toluene, amount of adsorbent, size of adsorbent particles, and temperature of solution. The adsorption of toluene by WTRG was relatively fast (equilibrium time of 30 min). Increasing the dosage of WTRG and the concentration of toluene in solution resulted in an increase in the adsorption capacity of WTRG. The adsorption capacity of WTRG decreased from 18.12 to 13.32 mg/g with increase in particle size from 0.212 to 2.36 mm while an increase in the temperature from 5 to 40 °C resulted in a decrease in the adsorption capacity from 17.57 to 16.26 mg/g. The adsorption of toluene was best described by the Lagergren pseudo-first order kinetic equation and Langmuir isotherm equation. This study has shown that WTRG can be used for the adsorption of toluene from aqueous solutions.

Application of Recycled Rubber from Scrap Tyres in the Adsorption of Toluene from Aqueous Solution

Batch study for sorption of 2,4-D and phenol on waste tyre rubber granules (WTRG) were carried out for checking feasibility of rubber granules as adsorbent. After 100 minutes of reaction time, it was evident that the kinetics profiles gradually became horizontal indicating the final equilibrium. The removal of 2,4-D and phenol beyond 120 was very low. The removal was 83.2% and 87% in 2hr at 0.75mg/l and 0.4mg/l, respectively for 2,4-D. The removal was 53.2% and 58.7% in 2hr at 0.75 mg/l and 0.4mg/l, respectively for phenol. It is clear from the analysis that Freundlich model fitted well with the experimental data and predicted amount of absorbed well in bi-solute.
