Distribution and structure of hydrocarbons in four organic-rich Ordovician rocks
M.G. Fowler,A.G. Douglas +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, organic matter in four North American rocks of Ordovician age has been analysed using geochemical and optical techniques including reflected light and fluorescence microscopy, and the results indicate that the four samples are potentially excellent oil source rocks although the Guttenberg Oil Rock is too immature to have generated a substantial quantity of hydrocarbons.

Hydrous pyrolysis of asphaltenes and polar fractions of biodegraded oils
TL;DR: Asphaltenes and polar fractions separated from oils and heavily biodegraded asphaltic bitumens, when heated under hydrous pyrolysis conditions produced pyrolysates that contained newly generated saturated hydrocarbons as discussed by the authors.

An Examination of the Fate of Nigerian Crude Oil in Surface Sediments of the Humber Estuary by Gas Chromatography and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
TL;DR: In this paper, the hydrocarbon composition of surface sediments at two lithologically different sites in the Humber Estuary (U.K.) has been examined by gas chromatography and GC-mass spectrometry.

Steranes as indicators of petroleum-like hydrocarbons in marine surface sediments
TL;DR: Combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) can be used to reveal the distribution of triterpenoidal and steroidal hydrocarbons in petroleums.

A geochemical investigation of samples from the Volgian Bazhenov formation, Western Siberia, Russia
TL;DR: In this paper, three different organic facies (A, B, and C) are proposed based on microscopical, bulk and biomarker analyses of five core samples from the Volgian Bazhenov Formation.
