Globally, solar energy has become a major contributor to the rapid adoption of renewable energy. Significant energy savings have resulted from the widespread utilization of solar energy in the industrial, residential, and commercial divisions. This review article comprises research conducted over the past 15 years (2008–2023), utilizing a comprehensive collection of 163 references. Significantly, a considerable focus is directed towards the period from 2020 to 2023, encompassing an extensive investigation into the latest developments in solar panel technology in civil engineering. The article examines the incorporation of solar panels into building designs and addresses installation-related structural considerations. In addition, the present review examines the applications of solar panels in terms of innovative infrastructure development applications of solar panels, such as photovoltaic parking lot canopies and photovoltaic noise barriers, which contribute to improved energy efficiency. It also emphasizes their role in water management systems, including water treatment plants, water pumping and irrigation systems, energy-efficient solar desalination technologies, and promoting sustainable water practices. In addition, this study examines how solar panels have been incorporated into urban planning, including smart cities and public parks, thereby transforming urban landscapes into greener alternatives. This study also examined the use of solar panels in building materials, such as façade systems and solar-powered building envelope solutions, demonstrating their versatility in the construction industry. This review explores the diverse applications of solar energy, which promotes sustainable practices in various industries. Owing to the ongoing research, solar energy holds great promise for a greener and cleaner future.

Pressure pulsation investigation in an electrical submersible pump based on Morlet continuous wavelet transform

The constant depletion of the existing energy sources and their environmental effects have generated interest in employing renewable energy sources to power water pumping systems, such as solar-photovoltaic. The research addresses the optimal photovoltaic (PV) power output, solar radiation, operating head, and tilt angle for maximum solar energy used to capture more solar radiation for solar water pumping for irrigation purposes. In order to get the best performance from the solar PV water pump, such as discharge (Q), hydraulic power (PH), pump efficiency (ήp), and overall efficiency (ήo), the design of experiments-based response surface methodology was implemented in this work. The data required for the RSM model were obtained from the experimental work performed at location 28.67° N, 77.21° E, Delhi, India. The experiments performed at five different ranges of input variables PV power output (4000, 4250, 4500, 4750, and 5000 W), Solar radiation (200, 350, 500, 650, and 800 W/m2), operating head (15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 m) Tilt angle (5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, and 25°). The best output parameters The best conditions for a solar PV water pump (16.8 m3/h discharge, 1.85 kW hydraulic power, 81.15% pump efficiency, and 16.12% overall efficiency) were discovered to be Po 5000 W, SA 260 W/m2, Head 35 m, and TA 19°. The predicted result was validated using an RSM-based solution, and the error% was found to be within acceptable limits (>5%). The desirability 0.963 of the model was indicating the good solution. 

Solar photovoltaic water pump performance optimization by using response surface methodology

\n\nElectric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) are widely used in agricultural fields,\npetroleum, and various other industries. These pumps are mostly driven at a constant speed since an A.C.\nmotor is normally used as the drive. However, ESPs can also be operated at various speeds by employing\na Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). Several patents have been published in ESP. Normally these pumps\nare started with the discharge valve at its closed position in order to control the starting current. When the\nESP runs at its shut-off position, it will develop a higher head and an increase in fluctuating pressure. In\norder to evaluate the effects of pressure fluctuation, its characteristics must be investigated.\n\n\n\nExperimentally investigate the characteristics of pressure pulsation which are generated at\neach stage of a multistage ESP during shut-off condition at various speeds.\n\n\n\nAn ESP with five stages was selected for conducting experiments. A VFD was used for operating\nthe ESP at five speed settings from 80 to 120 % of its rated speed. Piezoresistive transducer was\nplaced at the delivery side of the pump to acquire the signals of unsteady pressure. The pump was operated\nat closed valve condition at each speed, and unsteady pressure signals due to pressure pulsation\nwere captured.\n\n\n\nObtained results have indicated the presence of fundamental frequency pertaining to vane\npassing frequency and harmonics of higher frequencies.\n\n\n\n Study of pressure fluctuations at shut-off will help to analyze the failures of ESP due to\nvibration which occur when the pump runs at closed valve position for a prolonged length of time and\nstability of these pumps at lower flow rates.\n

Pressure pulsation causes vibration in the Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) and affects the life and performance of its system. ESP systems are installed at depths ranging from a few meters to several hundred meters. Unlike pumps used on the surface, once they are installed they become inaccessible for maintenance or for any kind of diagnostic measurement that might be taken directly on them. Therefore a detailed knowledge of mean and fluctuating pressures is required to achieve an optimal pressure distribution inside the ESP. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of the stage-wise pulsating pressure in ESP at shut-off condition at different speeds. Experiments were conducted on a pump having five stages. A variable frequency drive was used to operate the pump at five different speeds. Piezoresistive transducers were mounted at each stage of ESP to capture the unsteady pressure signals. Fast Fourier Transformation was carried out on the pressure signals to convert into frequency domain and the spectra of pressure pulsation signals were analyzed. The obtained results indicated the existence of fundamental frequency corresponding to the speed of rotation times the number of impeller blades and of the whole series of harmonics of higher frequencies.

Study of Stage-wise Pressure Pulsation in an Electric Submersible Pump under Variable Frequency Operation at Shut-off Condition

This paper deals with a standalone solar photovoltaic system for energy generation in household application. This system is proposed for indigenous people of Vellagevi village in Kodaikanal, India. Nearly 100 dwellings are living in this village. The village facing short fall in electric power supply. The solar energy is proposed to fulfil the demand of this study area. The PVsyst simulation software is utilized to design and analysis of the standalone solar PV system. The software simulation result is shown that the solar energy can produce 37.5kW. Also, the performance of the PV plant, energy generation, and system efficiency are estimated. Based on the PVsyst simulation, the system is able to generate 56,717 kWh per year and the plant annual performance ratio (PR) is 70.05%. The proposed system is more helpful for sustainable development.
