Cooling of particle beams: Intrabeam scattering, envelope instability and shear
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the dynamics of strongly coupled beams upon cooling, using molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulations. And they showed that for zero-current phase-advances σ 0 σ ε > 90° requires very high three-dimensional cooling rates in order to overcome envelope instabilities.

Crystallized ion beams in a storage ring
TL;DR: In this article, an ion beam in a storage ring was theoretically studied under smooth approximation, and a linear dependence of longitudinal velocity on horizontal position, foreseen by the theory for ground states in a smooth lattice, was observed.
